The Supreme Court says Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has been discharged from a hospital in New York City and has returned home. The court says Ginsburg, 87, is doing well, two days after undergoing a minimally invasive procedure on Wednesday to “revise a bile duct stent” at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The stent had originally been placed last August, when Ginsburg was treated for a cancerous tumor on her pancreas. Ginsburg announced earlier this month that she is receiving chemotherapy for a recurrence of cancer.Stent revisions are common occurrences and the procedure, performed using endoscopy and medical imaging guidance, was done to minimize the risk of future infection, her doctors said, according to a statement. In May, Ginsburg was hospitalized for treatment for a benign gallbladder condition.Ginsburg has also beaten cancer four times after suffering from pancreatic cancer last year. 921

The Supreme Court Monday rebuffed efforts by states to block funding to Planned Parenthood. It left in place two lower court opinions that said that states violate federal law when they terminate Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood affiliates who offer preventive care for low income women. It would have taken four justices to agree to hear the issue, and only three conservative justices -- Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch -- voted to hear the case.Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh appeared to side with the court's liberals in not taking up the case -- showing an effort to avoid high-profile abortion-related issues for now.Roberts and Kavanaugh "likely have serious objections," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law. "But such votes seem to be a signal that they would rather avoid contentious, high-profile disputes for now, at least where possible."The case concerned whether states can block Medicaid funds from Planned Parenthood affiliates that provide such women with annual health screens, contraceptive coverage and cancer screening.Thomas wrote a dissent for the three conservatives, saying the court isn't doing its job."What explains the Court's refusal to do its job here?" Thomas wrote."I suspect it has something to do with the fact that some respondents in these cases are named Planned Parenthood," he wrote."But these cases are not about abortion rights," he said. "They are about private rights of action under the Medicaid Act. Resolving the question presented here would not even affect Planned Parenthood's ability to challenge the states' decisions; it concerns only the rights of individual Medicaid patients to bring their own suits."The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. The toy run in December is usually one of the big ways Children's Hospital Colorado gets donated toys. But because of COVID-19, the supply of toys is down considerably. So the hospital reached out to some riders, and Sunday, they got a special delivery to help replenish that supply.Kids at Children's Hospital know when they hear those Harley engines roar, toys are on the way."Any motorcycles coming up to the hospital, the kids plaster themselves the windows. They love to see the bikes riding up," volunteer Bob Cuculich said."That's why we do it. It's things like this that make it all worthwhile," organizer Eddie Dane said. But it's not December when this toy run usually happens."Because of COVID this year, the hospital reached out to Rocky Mountain Harley Davidson, because we're a sponsor to the toy run and have been for years," Dane said.Dozens of bikers answered the last minute call to help."They're not reusing toys. So we are are going to replenish their supply and do the best we can to get them some more toys to last them until December," Dane said. They didn't know how many bikers would show. They just knew they needed to try to help the kids."There's a huge need," Cuculich said. But the roars were there, filling up the bins, and they hope more toys can be brought. Just no stuffed animals right now."Plush toys right now, they are just too hard to keep clean, and infection control just makes it a challenge to be able to give those to the kids," Cuculich added. The bikers hope this special delivery makes the kids happy and lasts until the main ride in December. Just a little Christmas in July.KMGH's Sean Towle first reported this story. 1671
