SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A chlorine spill that prompted evacuations in University City was contained Monday evening. 30 gallons of chlorine spilled in the pump room of the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center's Friedenburg Pool about 3:30 p.m. on Executive Drive at Regents Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Just after 4 p.m., the department said about 40 children were sheltered in place while crews developed a plan to mitigate the situation. The location is near corporate offices and housing, including UC San Diego's Mesa Residential Apartments.No injuries were reported.Chlorine spill contained to 30 gallons at the JCC pool. No injuries. About 400 kids evacuated already. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A bobcat severely injured in a Southern California wildfire is on the road to recovery thanks to the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife team.The female bobcat, believed to be 6-8 months old, was brought to the Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center on Oct. 13 after suffering severe burns in the El Dorado Fire in Yucaipa, San Bernardino County.An area resident out with her dogs saw the injured bobcat and notified authorities.According to the Humane Society, the cat’s ears and whiskers “were singed, consistent with fire exposure, and later confirmed that she was a victim of the El Dorado Fire.”Christine Barton, director of Operations & Wildlife Rehabilitation at the Ramona Wildlife Center, said, “Typically, encounters with dogs do not end well, but in this case, it probably saved her life. You could see that she was emaciated and clearly had singed whiskers and ears, but her full exam revealed the true extent of her injuries, which included burns to all four of her paws. We collaborate with CADFW (California Department of Fish and Wildlife) and a burn specialist with UC Davis on burn cases, and we all agreed that this little girl is a fighter and has a good chance of making a full recovery.”The Humane Society said the cat is healing well and could be returned to the wild next month. 1342

SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) -- A suspected arsonist was arrested for allegedly starting a series of brush fires in Otay Mesa West, Sunday afternoon. MAST (Metro Arson Strike Team) investigators booked 49 year-old Ramon Guevara for arson.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the blaze broke out just after 10:30 near 4th Avenue and Private Road. The fires were ignited in the valley at Otay Valley Regional Park.Crews say at least 10 spot fires started along the road and, as of 12:30 p.m., and had burned three acres. Sunday marked the third day in a row small brush fires popped up in the area. Units from the Chula Vista and San Diego fire departments and two firefighting helicopters joined to battle the flames.
