CINCINNATI — Six months after his son's suicide, a sobbing Ronald Hummons sped down Interstate 71 with no hope left except that a well-placed pothole might launch him through the windshield of his car and put an end to his half-year of grief. (KGTV) - A brush fire erupted near homes in the Eastlake area of Chula Vista Tuesday, but no evacuations were ordered as crews doused the flames.The fire was reported shortly after 9 a.m. near the 400 block of Agua Vista Drive, according to Cal Fire officials.The blaze briefly burned vegetation several yards from some homes, but crews in the air and on the ground were able to stop the fire’s spread before it reached structures.After nearly two hours, crews contained the fire to 44 acres burned.10News learned the fire may have been accidentally caused by landscapers using equipment to clear out weeds. 635

(KGTV) — Aquatica San Diego and Chula Vista police are warning trespassers after ABC 10News obtained video showing people inside the closed waterpark riding skateboards on some of their attractions.The clip starts with individuals climbing over barbed wire fencing surrounding the theme park. The group is seen casually walking the grounds of the park then skateboarding on water slides, including the six-story funnel ride Tassie's Twister.The 19-second video appeared on the social media app TikTok on May 19 and has been viewed more than 1.1 million times.10News showed the video to Aquatica, who confirmed there have been trespassing incidents recently. The park added that they have notified police and trespassers will face consequences."While Aquatica is temporarily closed because of COVID-19, the park is monitored 24/7. Our security team has caught trespassers in the park and notified the Chula Vista Police Department. Citations have been issued because trespassing is a misdemeanor crime. (KGTV) - An Eastlake pizza restaurant shut down Wednesday after an inspection turned up signs of rodent nests, droppings and urine.Filippi’s Pizza Grotto at 871 Showroom Place, near Otay Lakes Road and Hunte Parkway, received a primary inspection report April 18 from the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health.The inspector found 20 dried rodent droppings in a back oven and rodent nests in the panels of two ovens, County documents showed. There were also rodent droppings in utensil storage areas, beneath a stove, and dry storage areas, according to the report.The report indicated there were multiple holes in an exterior wall and a door leading to the outdoor trash area that building management had ordered to remain open.The County Dept. of Environmental Health conducted a second inspection the following day.The inspector reported six dried mouse droppings and two fresh rat droppings in dry storage on the building’s second floor, according to County documents.There was also dried urine on the plastic wrapper of cardboard pizza boxes and gnaw marks through plastic into boxes, the report said.The operator of Filippi’s told the inspector the restaurant had been deep-cleaned before the re-inspection.Filippi’s reopened Friday afternoon, according to County health officials. 1333

Now nearby schools are reminding parents to stay vigilant. Chula Vista Police said last Monday, a woman in her 20’s was exercising on the stairs at Otay Park. But on her way down, someone pushed her from behind, knocking her unconscious.The perpetrator then raped her, stole her things, and ran.When she woke up, she managed to flag someone down at the park, who then called 9-1-1.It has been seven days into the investigation. But the Chula Vista police department says the perpetrator is still at large. Detectives are now reviewing and enhancing several pieces of video evidence.They are also waiting to get the results of the victim’s rape kit. Last week, Otay Elementary School Pirincipal, Monica Castillo sent a letter to parents addressing the recent crime that happened next to school property. 1009
