SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Wednesday, a San Diego City Council Infrastructure Committee was briefed on the progress of a downtown building that’s presently costing taxpayers millions and may end up costing tens of millions more.The 19-story building at 101 Ash Street was supposed to be about saving taxpayers money and improving communication among city employees. But some council members say it’s becoming a symbol for just the opposite."What people need to remember is this is tax-payer money," says Councilman David Alvarez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — TwitchCon has announced it will cancel this year's convention in San Diego originally scheduled in September.The convention — which brings together popular video streamers and the community for panels, parties, and more — was set to arrive in San Diego from Sept. 25-27 before organizers called off the event."Due to restrictions on large gatherings and ongoing concerns for the health and safety of our community, the Twitch team and the local San Diego community, we have decided to cancel TwitchCon San Diego this fall," organizers stated online. The convention is now exploring ways to potentially hold the event virtually."While we can’t gather in person, we’re exploring ways that we could join forces in an alternate dimension later this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection started Tuesday construction on its second border wall project along the U.S-Mexico border. The 14-mile long project consists of crews replacing existing barriers with new 30-foot tall steel bollards. The contract was awarded to Texas-based construction company SLSCO Ltd. The secondary wall project runs just north of the primary fence replacement project which started last summer. 446

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries after their small engine plane crashed near Montgomery Field Airport on Thursday afternoon.The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. near the executive airport at Kearny Villa Road and Balboa Avenue.According to the San Diego Police Department, a witness said the plane crashed behind a building near the airport and was helping the pilot.The plane had just taken off from the airport when it clipped trees and crash landed in an open space behind the Kyocera business building on Balboa Avenue, said Dan Eddy, Battalion Chief of the San Diego Fire Department Two male passengers were responsive when crews arrived but were transported with major injuries.Police said there was no active fire and no structures or vehicles were damaged.Eddy estimated at least 20 gallons of fuel spilled from the wrecked plane.The plane missed a high voltage area by about 30 feet, said Eddy.No further information was provided at this time. 1004

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With less than a month until the midterm elections, the campaign to win California’s 50th district congressional seat is fierce.Team 10 Investigative Reporter Jennifer Kastner has been fact-checking the campaign ads released by republican incumbent Duncan Hunter and democratic challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar.Kastner had a sit-down interview with Campa-Najjar Tuesday before his new campaign ad was officially released.Team 10 asked Campa-Najjar if his new ad planned to defend the accusations brought against him from Representative Hunter in Hunter’s most recent campaign ad that was released almost two weeks ago.“The good news is that all of you [media] are doing the defending because [his ad’s] not factual,” Campa-Najjar told Team 10. Campa-Najjar has also called Hunter’s ad un-American and racist.Hunter’s ad claims, “Ammar Campa-Najjar is working to infiltrate Congress." The explosive video garnered a firestorm of attention, centering much around the Latino Arab-American’s family ties to terrorism.It is a fact that Campa-Najjar’s grandfather was involved in the Munich Olympic Massacre, but Campa-Najjar renounced his grandfather, who died years before he was born.Hunter’s ad also implies that Campa-Najjar is a security risk, however Campa-Najjar passed multiple security clearances as a former official in the Obama Administration.“We've raised money off of [Hunter’s] ad,” Campa-Najjar told Team 10. He said the ad has backfired on Hunter, fueling contributions to Campa-Najjar’s campaign from voters who, he said, are disgusted. The Federal Election Commission shows that more than a million dollars have rolled in for Campa-Najjar, ahead of Hunter's nearly 0,000, but those numbers are from June.
