POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man is dead following a fatal crash in the 12900 block of Community Road, near Civic Center Drive. The Sheriff's department says a speeding vehicle was driving northbound on Community Road when it hit another vehicle, causing several other crashes. The driver of one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene and several other people were injured.Community Road was closed in both directions during the initial investigation.The Sheriff's Traffic Accident Reconstruction team was called to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.Video from Sky10 shows the scene of the crash. (KGTV) - A teenager is using chalk art to try and lift the spirits of her neighbors during the Coronavirus Pandemic.Lori Vildibill has covered the sidewalks of her street in inspirational messages and doodles, hoping they can make people smile."It's mostly things I had been saying to myself to try to get me to feel better," she says of where she got the ideas for dozens of messages. "Then I thought, I can't just write a bunch of words. Maybe I'll draw a little flower here and there to brighten up people's days."Lori, a Senior in High School, says missing out on things like prom, graduation, and yearbook signing because of Coronavirus had been somewhat depressing. She thought the drawings could change her moods, and also help her neighbors."I realized that I'm probably not the only person feeling that way, and if I can encourage people to just smile or get outside and walk, check out what I'm doing, it would be good for everyone," she says.Even though recent rain has washed away most of the drawings already, Lori says she'll replace them with new ones. She plans to keep bringing a little sunshine after every storm. 1153

PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayors of six U.S. cities are appealing to Congress to make it illegal for the U.S. government to deploy militarized agents to cities that don’t want them. The mayors of Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Chicago; Kansas City; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington wrote to leaders of the U.S. House and Senate pushing for limits on agent deployments. The move came Monday as a top official said federal militarized officers would remain in Portland until attacks on the U.S. courthouse cease. Early Monday, U.S. agents repeatedly fired what appeared to be tear gas, flash bangs and pepper balls at protesters.Federal agents have been patrolling Portland over a little over a week. They were sent to the city by the Department of Homeland Security as part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on the defacement of federal property, statues and monuments.Protests have taken place nightly in Portland for 60 straight days, since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis. While the vast majority of those demonstrating have been peaceful, a federal courthouse has been defaced with graffiti, some protesters have thrown fireworks and other projectiles toward officers and others have attempted to breach fencing surrounding the courthouse.Federal agents have responded by using tear gas, pepper balls and the use of batons to disperse protesters on several occasions. They've also grabbed protesters off the streets and detained them in unmarked cars.Protests have escalated in intensity since federal agents have arrived in the city, which has forced Oregon Gov. POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Family and friends are mourning the tragic death of a man in Poway this weekend. Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Walker died after a stray bullet hit him in the stomach as he slept early Saturday. It happened at the Sofi Apartment complex on Midland Road. Christina Walker said her husband was sleeping in the spare bedroom so his snoring wouldn't wake her. "All of a sudden, I heard this loud thud, and I didn't know what it was, I ran out of bed, I thought he fell and he was just standing there and I don't think he even knew what was happening, but he was just laying there in bed and got shot," said Walker. She said they didn't realize what had happened. "I'm looking and I'm just seeing this hole in his stomach and then I look over and there's a hole in my wall," said Walker. She rushed him to the hospital, but he died around 3 a.m Saturday ."I think we were still just disbelief, really not knowing, you just don't think, we don't have a gun, it's not like either one of us has ever been shot before, you just don't think, why would you think you have a bullet in you?" said Walker. "Until I heard that they got the person, I couldn't even cry until then, not really, and then I just lost it," said Walker.The Walkers were married less than three years. Christina describes her husband a kind and gentle man. "When I say and stress just how amazing he was, he didn't even know how amazing he was, he was always there when somebody needed him, he was very compassionate, he was an incredible human, he just poured out love for me, and I just hope that I was able to give that to him," said Walker.Her husband worked at Jeromes.
