Thousands of recovering addicts in Southern Arizona are sharing the battle towards recovery.One of those is Robert Lyles, who remembers the moment he almost lost his life."I remember so well, the doctor and the paramedics yelling you're losing him, you're losing him," Lyles said.He said it is a moment he will never forget. Being rushed through the double doors at Northwest Hospital, he said, was the day God gave him a second chance to live."(The doctor) said, 'You had 30 days top, 45 you would have been dead for sure,'" he said.That was back in 2007, after being involved in a car crash and suffering a neck and foot injury. Lyles said his doctor prescribed Percocet and Ativan to treat the pain, the beginning of the end for him, Lyles stated. That's because one day his daily dose wasn't enough to end the pain."I'll take another Percocet, and when I did, I liked the feeling and from that point forward, I started increasing my drug intake," he added.After that, the rest of the year became a blur, he said. His life began closing down on him, divorcing his wife, and losing communication with his only son. Until a serious conversation with his doctor convinced him to seek professional help: "He told me you need to go back and listen to them and so I did," he explained.Ever since, Lyler said he has been the best student at Sierra Tucson, where he has been focusing on his recovery, and most importantly staying clean for nearly 10 years.He also wants to make sure other patients find the courage to recover. The NCAA announced on Thursday that college football bowl games can commence this season on December 1.In the past, teams needed to have a 6-6 (.500) record at a minimum in order to qualify for a bowl game. But with most teams playing a truncated schedule, the NCAA is lifting its minimum requirement to qualify for bowl games.The news comes as the Pac-12 announced that it will begin play Nov. 6. The announcement means all five of the so-called “power 5” conferences will attempt to play a college football season amid the coronavirus pandemic.The Big 10 and Pac-12 originally decided to postpone starting the season. The nation’s air traffic control system is losing controllers faster than it can hire people, according to the Air Traffic Controllers union.“If we don't have enough controllers to open all the positions and we have to combine up positions we have to reduce the capacity,” said Paul Rinaldi, the union’s president.He says the effects of not enough controllers have affected flights in the past."We have seen some situations last summer where we didn't have enough controllers at the facility where airlines did cancel flights," he said. The Justice Department's inspector general has sent a criminal referral regarding former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe to the US attorney's office in Washington, according to a source familiar with the matter.A McCabe spokesperson, the Justice Department and US attorney's office all declined to comment.The IG had found that McCabe "lacked candor" on four occasions when discussing the disclosure of information for a Wall Street Journal article about the FBI's Clinton Foundation investigation, according to a copy of the report obtained by CNN.In addition, the inspector general determined that McCabe was not authorized to disclose the existence of the investigation because it was not within the department's "public interest" exception for disclosing ongoing investigations.
