“Caught on camera” moments are fun to watch.  They can also be important evidence when they show people breaking the law.Radius Security in Vancouver, Canada, has developed new technology to help police catch suspected criminals in the act."Every single night we are getting one or two apprehensions on one of our sites across the country," said Joel Luyt, a site security specialist with Radius Security.“We have 15 computers inside our unit,” said Luyt.  Radius Security’s cameras use those computers to scan for humans.  The technology disregards other things that might move, like tree branches, animals and rain, that would normally set off a false alarm."So they're looking for oscillating arms. They're looking for head movement, torso and they're deciphering, 'is that a human?'"  said Luyt.By reducing the number of false alarms, more officers are available to respond to an actual crime.Car dealerships and construction companies hire Radius Security to keep watch for burglars, who can make off with expensive spools of wire or copper tubing worth thousands of dollars.Bernie Godler runs Performance Construction and says the new technology has proven more reliable and cut down on false alarms."A full-time manned security gets very expensive. It seems that you know, having a full-time manned security would actually be better but it isn't because we're finding that we get guards that end up falling asleep on the job site. We actually had one job where the manned security was in cahoots with the people who were stealing the stuff off the job site," said Godler.A study said false alarms cost the U.S. nearly billion dollars.  94 percent of alarms turned out to be false, tying up valuable police time when there is no burglar.Radius says it helps police capture the bad guy, like one man who hid in a porta potty, about 60 percent of the time. This technology also lets the security company route a live feed from the security camera to law enforcement's cars."They can punch in a four-digit code into their vehicle while they're driving to the site and they can see live what our monitoring station is seeing so they'll know where the criminal is on the site and they'll see what he is doing live on video and get there in an even faster time.,” said Luyt.Right now, this technology runs upwards of ,000 a year, which is too expensive for many.  But, Luyt expects that eventually, the computer system will get smaller and be more cost-effective to keep your home safe.The company plans to expand this year to the United States, both in San Francisco and Chicago. 2639

(KGTV) — President Trump stood by his demands for border wall funding, following a meeting with Democratic leadership Friday, ensuring more debate into the weekend over .6 billion for his border wall to end the government shutdown.In a press conference, the president discussed his meeting, calling it productive and saying he believed progress with Democrats had been made. However, House Speaker told reporters outside the White House that, "We cannot resolve this until we open up government, and we made that very clear to the president."Here are six takeaways from President Trump's press conference:On the government shutdown...During his meeting with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, President Trump confirmed he said the government shutdown could last for months or even a year or longer."I don't think it will, but I am prepared," Trump told reporters. "I hope it doesn't go on even a few more days. It really could open very quickly."He added later that the government wouldn't reopen until the issue of border security and wall is solved. "What we save on [the USMCA] just with Mexico will pay for the wall many times over just in the period of a year, two years, three years. I view that as absolutely Mexico is paying for the wall."Bypassing Congress for the wall...When asked about granting himself emergency powers to construct the wall, President Trump said he had already considered it, but want to negotiate with lawmakers first."Yes, I have. And I can do it if I want," Trump told a reporter. "We can call a national emergency. I haven't done it. I may do it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly. It's another way of doing it."On the border wall...President Trump said a team of people would work through the weekend to address border security, "the look" of the wall, and ports of entry. "I think they're going to be really successful. (KGTV) - The mother of two girls found dead in their San Bernardino County home will be charged with their murders when she is released from the hospital, Ontario police said Thursday. Officers said Linda Nguyen, 47, was placed under arrest and will be booked when she is medically cleared. She is currently unresponsive, police said. The bodies of Nguyen’s daughters, aged 4 months and 14 years, were discovered by their father Tuesday when he returned home from work. Among the evidence were two suicides notes written by Nguyen “indicating that she intended to kill the children and to kill herself," police Sgt. Bill Russell told reporters. "We do know that the mother was dealing with depression prior to the incident and had dealt with that in the past," he said.
