(KGTV) - Chula Vista police are now investigating multiple fires that broke out in over the span of a few days in the early hours of the morning.Captain Linda D’Orsi, Public Information Officer for the Chula Vista Fire Department, said they started early in the morning Sept. 17 and most have been fences and vegetation that burned. That Thursday morning, crews responded to multiple fires that started in the span of about half an hour, starting on Lake Crest Dr. & Wueste Rd, moving to 1120 Eastlake Parkway, then Telegraph Canyon Rd and Buena Vista Way and finally E. J St and Paseo Ladera.Just about two days later, crews then responded to a fire at the playground at Veteran’s Park. Karina Lodin lives across the street. She said she woke up to see the flames, then she called 911 and her husband took a video of the blaze.“For a second there, with everything that’s going on in California with all the wildfires, and you see this big fire outside your house, you start panicking like is my house going to catch up on fire,” said Lodin.She was disheartened to see the play structure flattened because it was a spot her son loved to play.Just one day after that, another fire nearby on Martin Place, also in the early hours of the morning.“As of this latest one, we have now requested our PD liaison because there seems to be a trend and we want to get to the bottom of this,” said Captain D’Orsi.Captain D’Orsi said they have not found anything left behind at each scene and have not found any witnesses with information on people in the area.“No obvious evidence left at the scene, no matches no flares,” she said.She added that anyone with information is asked to call the Chula Vista Police Department non emergency line at 619-691-5151.“We just want the community to be aware and be willing to provide information if they have any,” said Captain D’Orsi. 1894

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A fire at an apartment in downtown Chula Vista sent two children to a hospital early Saturday, authorities said.Firefighters responded at about 2:20 a.m. to a report of a fire at an apartment above a business in the 300 block of Third Avenue, Chula Vista Deputy Fire Chief Harry Muns said.Two people were reportedly walking by the home when they saw smoke and flames and rushed to wake everyone.Smoke was visible from the back of the building upon arrival, Muns said. Crews were able to put the fire out quickly, and they found a 10-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy inside the unit where the fire began.The two were given medical treatment for smoke-related injuries.Five people were displaced by the fire -- including three from adjacent units, Muns said. 796

(KGTV) -- Chula Vista’s next city manager will be the first Hispanic and first woman to serve in that role.Maria Kachadoorian, who has worked for the City of Chula Vista for 22 years, will move from her position as Assistant City Manager and take over for the retiring Gary Halbert.Halbert has served as the City Manager since 2014, and he has been with the city since 2008. He is set to retire on June 19.As the City Manager, Kachadoorian will be in charge of overseeing and maintaining the city’s budget. She will also “advance the Chula Vista Bayfront development, launch Ambulance Transport Services, and foster initiatives that better connect the City’s diverse communities.”In a statement, Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas said of Kachadoorian: “Maria has the knowledge, skills and vision we need to move the City forward during these unprecedented times. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A close family friend is speaking out after a 15-year-old boy was stabbed at a Chula Vista birthday party while defending his friend. Devin Griffiths was stabbed at a birthday party on the 900 block of Maria Way in Chula Vista on January 31. Reid Schneider, a friend of the family, says the party was first advertised on the social media platform Snapchat. Schneider says there was a doorman at the party as well as security guards. Witnesses say an argument between Devin’s friend and another teenager escalated into a fight outside. Devin, who was not involved in the original fight, intervened to help his friend when he was stabbed. "They started hurting Devin’s friend. Devin jumped in and he was beat down pretty bad and stabbed a few times," Schneider said. "He had some severe brain damage. I guess he was considered dead on scene and they kind of brought him back."RELATED: 15-year-old stabbed, killed protecting friend at Chula Vista birthday partyDevin underwent at least five surgeries within the first 12 hours, according to Schneider. He died on February 16 after being taken off life support. "There was a lot of times where we thought there was hope and and unfortunately there was too much damage," Schneider added. Clearly, it's not working,” she said.In Georgia, where she has lived and voted since 2013, nearly a dozen mail-sorting machines were removed. Still, she applied for an absentee ballot.“It was sent out the same day,” said Alana. “Three weeks later, no absentee ballot. And I was getting just so mad.”Even more of a problem, she’s currently staying in Durango, Colorado, dealing with respiratory issues.“I'm here to see if the dry air is a little bit better for my breathing problems,” she said.In Georgia, more than 1.1 million absentee by mail ballots have been returned, trouncing the nearly 155,000 cast in 2016. But know who you are voting for and why,” said Madison.Alana says there’s too much at stake this election not to ensure your voice is heard.“I didn't want to be a victim,” she said. “There is no American citizen that needs to be a victim this year.
