Oprah Winfrey and Lionsgate are partnering with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones to adapt The New York Times' 1619 Project for film and television. Lionsgate said Wednesday that it will work alongside "The 1619 Project" architect Hannah-Jones to develop a multi-media history of the legacy of slavery in America for a worldwide audience. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of Oceanside has unveiled its latest effort to achieve their zero waste goals set back in 2011.Green Oceanside Kitchen is a state-of-the-art food recovery and preservation facility dedicated to eliminating waste and feeding the community."We need to do better, we need to feed our community and educate our community," said Colleen Foster, the City's Environmental Officer. The City teamed up with O'Side Kitchen Collaborative for the new project. They'll collect unwanted food from farmers, backyards, and food businesses, turning the goods into something delicious. "I could've done anything, but for me, making an impact in my community as well as it tasting good is the best!" said Vallie Gilley, Executive Director of O' side Kitchen Collaborative. The facility includes a 1,700 square foot commercial kitchen and a 500 square foot fridge that can hold about a semi-truck load of food. There's also an interactive demonstration kitchen for culinary arts training and education. Foster says more than 40 percent of what is grown and produced in the U.S. is wasted. With the new green facility, planners hope to save 20 percent of what would've gone to waste."That's thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of pounds of food," said Foster. Nostalgia lovers can kindly rewind to a time when Blockbuster Video reigned supreme.On Tuesday, the once defunct Blockbuster Video Twitter account came out of a six-year hibernation to announce that the last remaining Blockbuster in Oregon can be rented through Airbnb. The store will be split into three units, with each one selling for per night, but the catch is it’s only open to residents of Deschutes County, Oregon, where the final Blockbuster Video remains.Blockbuster will provide snacks, soft drinks and pizza with the units. The units will also have access to a huge collection of Blockbuster’s stock.The units are available for up to four people, but can only be rented for one night per family.Following three nights of stays, the Oregon Blockbuster will allow visitors to see the units during regular business hours for a limited time.The Bend, Oregon, Blockbuster became the final location open of the mega video rental chain in 2018 after a pair of Alaska locations closed. The Oregon location has said to have become somewhat of a tourist attraction as a relic of 90s culture. 1105

Oceanside (KGTV): The Main Attraction is getting ready for its last dance.The popular topless bar, the last of its kind in the North County, was recently sold. Developers now plan to turn the land it sits on, as well as more than 5 acres around it, into a mixed-use housing project.Papers filed with the City of Oceanside Planning Department show plans for a five story, 308-unit complex that also includes 4,000 square feet of street front retail stores and a six-story parking garage. Wood Partners and Lightfoot Planning Group filed the plans.The land sits just west of the 5 freeway near the intersection of North Coast Highway and Costa Pacifica Way. A vacant lot covers most of the 5.3-acre parcel. A few abandoned warehouses and the strip club stand as the only buildings around."It is exciting," says Leslee Gaul, the CEO of Visit Oceanside. "It’s part of the renaissance in our community, and I think it’s a great location."Gaul's office is right across the street from the topless bar. She works in the California Welcome Center. The Main Attraction is the first thing most visitors see when they get off the freeway in Oceanside.Gaul says the club has been a good neighbor, but she's ready for the change."It’s been a low key, positive relationship for many years," she says. "But as things change and our community changes, this is part of that."Homes within the complex will range from a 550 square foot studio to 1,550 square foot townhomes. The majority of the 308 units will be either one or two-bedroom apartments. Meanwhile, the plans from the developer say residents will have modern amenities, including "an indoor‐outdoor social lounge with pool access and catering kitchen, a fitness center, an artist center, bicycle room, and surfboard storage." There will also be a 5th‐floor deck with an ocean view.Phone calls to the developer, the city and the topless bar weren't returned this week. On Aug. 26, 2017, 15-year-old Damon Grimes was involved in a police pursuit while driving an ATV. That pursuit ended in a crash on Detroit’s east side that claimed Grimes’ life.Using the Freedom of Information Act, 25-hours worth of video from police body cameras and dash cameras, surveillance video and cellphone video shot by witnesses were released that tell the story of the senseless death. They would not provide footage from the dash cam of the pursuit by MSP Troopers, Mark Bessner and Ethan Berger.At 5:31 p.m., the video shows Damon Grimes riding his ATV down Rossini Avenue and Gratiot in Detroit.Bessner requests priority to chase an ATV. “He flipped. Flipped!” said Detroit Police Officer Williams on the radio.“Yup, tell them there’s an accident,” said DPD Officer Boersman, who was first on the scene.Grimes hit a parked Ford F-150 with his ATV and he flew off the four-wheeler.“He’s got a pulse and he’s breathing,” said Bessner.“0-9, he’s slowed down, we tased him and he crashed out. Have EMS step it up,” said Bessner.“He’s got a pulse,” Bessner said.As Detroit Police Officer Kimberly Buckner heads to the scene in his squad car, you can hear radio chatter from MSP: “If you could just maybe have a unit or two make it there for moral support, sounds like it could be a pretty bad one.”“They never said what they were chasing him for just came over there and said MSP’s in a chase," said Officer Addison.“Don’t run from the State Police, you get f---ed up,” said one officer.Also on video, troopers can be seen attempting CPR on Grimes.“His pulse is weakening, what’s our ETA?” is heard on dispatch.“They tased his ass while he was cruising,” said an officer who walked up to Buckner as he covers her body cam.Buckner then shuts off her camera.As the ambulance arrived around 5:37 p.m., the stretcher is wheeled up to Grimes' body while another officer shuts off his body camera.At this point, Stephenson turns on her body cam.“Should we give them like an escort or something?” she asks DPD Officer Aubrey Wade. “Should we give them an escort to St. Johns?”“For him? Hell no!” said Wade.“They got lights and sirens. We only do that for police,” he said. “If an officer gets shot we’ll do that.”“I didn’t know they were chasing a four-wheeler,” said Stephenson.Grimes was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John’s Hospital.Due to his insensitive comments, Wade was reassigned.Bessner, the passenger in the MSP vehicle in pursuit, is accused of breaking protocol and taser use. He is awaiting an August murder trial. He resigned from Michigan State Police.The Grimes family has filed a million civil suit against Bessner.
