As 10News examines ways to make it in San Diego, we have solutions for saving money on travel.It's not your imagination: fees are part of the way airlines do business."Instead of just one price for everything, it's now an a la carte menu," said AAA spokesman Allan Gundy.The hidden charges don't just apply to your luggage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Wildfire season is here and county officials want to make sure San Diegans are prepared. As summer heats up and brush dries out, Cal Fire is urging everyone to create a wildfire action plan. According to the agency, the plan should be familiar to all members of your household well in advance of a fire. This includes making an emergency supply kit and creating an evacuation plan. If you’re unsure how to start preparing a wildfire action plan, Cal Fire has some tips. Create an evacuation plan that includes:· A designated emergency meeting location outside the fire or hazard area. This is critical to determine who has safely evacuated from the affected area.· Several different escape routes from your home and community. Practice these often so everyone in your family is familiar in case of emergency.· Have an evacuation plan for pets and large animals such as horses and other livestock.· A Family Communication Plan that designates an out-of-area friend or relative as a point of contact to act as a single source of communication among family members in case of separation. (It is easier to call or message one person and let them contact others than to try and call everyone when phone, cell, and internet systems can be overloaded or limited during a disaster.) Be Prepared:· Have fire extinguishers on hand and train your family how to use them (check expiration dates regularly).· Ensure that your family knows where your gas, electric, and water main shut-off controls are located and how to safely shut them down in an emergency.· Assemble an Emergency Supply Kit for each person, as recommended by the American Red Cross. (See next section for details.)· Maintain a list of emergency contact numbers posted near your phone and in your emergency supply kit.· Keep an extra Emergency Supply Kit in your car in case you cannot get to your home because of fire or other emergency.· Have a portable radio or scanner so you can stay updated on the fire.· Tell your neighbors about Ready, Set, Go! and your Wildfire Action Plan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two weeks after their son was killed, the parents of Alexander Mazin spoke to 10News for the first time about the brutal attack.Penelope and Jeffrey Mazin say their son left for the 24 Hour Fitness gym on Midway Dr. around 9 a.m. on Feb. 25, 2018.“I said 'I love you' and I kissed him on his little fuzzy beard,” remembered his mom, “and he walked out the door. I’m glad I saw him that morning.”He was scheduled to meet with his dad at noon, but by 12:05, his parents were already worried. He was never late.They started calling hospitals and police stations. Little did they know, officers were already searching for him.“Two plainclothes detectives in black cars pulled up and my heart sunk because I knew right then and there something horrible must have happened,” said Jeffrey.The suspect in the case has been identified as Ernesto Castellanos.The Mazins say Castellanos was in a previous relationship with their son’s girlfriend. They say Alexander had been dating the woman for about three months but kept their relationship somewhat private.There were warning signs. Two weeks before the killing, they say Castellanos had attacked the woman while she was working out with Mazin at a 24 Hour Fitness.Castellanos’ whereabouts are unknown. The Mazins say, police believe he may have fled to Mexico. A ,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Anonymous tips can be made to San Diego Crime Stoppers. 1478

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Whether you're into cars, fashion, history, or current events, you could find it in a magazine at Paras News. Now the beloved North Park newsstand is closing down after 70 years."For a lot of people, they're here every day. It's their mainstay," said Ken Gabbara, owner of Paras News for the last 11 years. Health concerns are just one of the reasons he's letting the iconic shop go. You can't compete with something they give away for free for the most part," said Gabbara.At one time, they sold over 4,000 types of magazines, but with less published nowadays, that number dropped to 2,500.Longtime customers are sad to see the neighborhood establishment go. "It's going to be missed, it's really going to be missed," said Sharon Maynard, a customer of 35 years.Maynard fell in love with the literary and poetry magazines. "Now they just go online, but for me, there's nothing better than having it in your hand in print," said Maynard.Also sad to see the newsstand go is manager Kent Snyder, who's worked at Paras for 33 years.
