TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — Hundreds of Tijuana residents have congregated around a monument in an affluent section of the city south of California to protest the thousands of Central American migrants who have arrived there via caravan in hopes of a new life in the U.S.The locals waved Mexican flags, sang the Mexican national anthem and chanted "Out! There has been no phone call between President-elect Joe Biden and President Donald Trump. There has been no concession from the commander-in-chief either. America is currently enduring one of the most turbulent transitions in recent memory. So what is not happening that should be during this non-traditional transition? NO SIGN-OFF ON TRANSITIONWhile Biden has held events with signs like "The Office of the President-elect" behind him, technically the office has not been activated by the General Services Administration. It may sound like an obscure government agency, but the office is responsible for unlocking funds and access for the president-elect. Without the GSA starting the transition, Biden can't telephone current members of the executive branch and receive confidential briefings from them. He doesn't have access to taxpayer funds to begin the background check process for some appointees. SIGNIFICANT IMPLICATIONS The implications go beyond the lack of a photograph between Biden and Trump in the White House. The last time the United States experienced a delayed transition was in 2000 because of the Florida Recount. The 9/11 Commission, following the September 11th attacks, put some blame on the transition because it prevented President George W. Bush from putting some national security advisers in key positions in a timely manner. Congressional Democrats have sent a letter asking GSA administrator Emily Murphy to brief Congress on why the transition has not begun. 1503

About 76% of people in a new survey they did with Gen Z say they regularly or often see depictions of racial violence on their social media feed and it hurts them emotionally. Their feelings include hopelessness and anger.“We deserve to live our lives in spectrum, and you know showcase what those experiences look like inclusive of the trauma but not exclusive to trauma,” said Charles.A psychologist we spoke with agrees that it's important not to define the Black experience just by racial oppression. He says it's easy to do because there is so much of it. And Black joy can get overlooked.“Yes, we are sort of in the midst of all of these sorts of negative incidents, but even in the midst of those incidents, we not only sort of persist and survive, but we can and often times do continue to thrive,” said Kevin Cokley with UT Austin’s Department of of Educational Psychology.Cokley says the Black joy initiative is important for acknowledging the assets and strengths of the Black community, which is an approach that has been used in Black psychology for many years. But it can be helpful for others too.“I think it's helpful for non-Black people to recognize that you know the ways in which you might sort of caricature or stereotype Black people is very limited and does not give you the true perspective of their humanity,” said Cokley.He points at one positive we've seen from everything going on in our country now. TOOELE, Utah — Over the past few weeks, people in Utah have been reporting mysterious packages they’ve been receiving in the mail from China. Federal officials could pick up the investigation. Lori Culley said she was excited to find two small packages in her mailbox on Tuesday. Although most of the writing on the outside was in Chinese, the label indicated there would be earrings inside.“I opened them up and they were seeds,” Culley said. “Obviously they’re not jewelry!”Culley couldn’t understand why she would be receiving mislabeled seeds from China in the mail, but at first she didn’t think much of it.Plants and seeds are strictly regulated in Utah.The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food will likely team up with Customs and Border Protection agents to investigate.An employee with the Utah Department of Agriculture picked up the seeds within a few hours of learning about the incident.Culley posted about the strange incident on Facebook, she was surprised to learn the same thing has happened to “at least 40 people” who either publicly commented or privately responded to her post. Now Culley wonders how many people might have been so curious about the seeds that they decided to plant them.“There was an article that I found in the UK saying this has been happening over there, and they are bad seeds, they are invasive,” Culley said. “I hope that it’s nothing too serious… don’t throw them in the garbage. Don’t plant them. Don’t touch them.”Employees with the Utah Department of Agriculture encourage anyone who received mysterious seeds in the mail to please give them a call so they can pick up the mail for further investigation.“I mean there’s even a possibility it could be a drug or something!” Culley said. “It just smells – it doesn’t sound right.”The Better Business Bureau is planting a different idea.Jane Rupp, president of BBB’s Utah chapter, said the incidents could just be a scam known as “brushing” where some companies will send you a product so they can post a fake review in your name.“That is rather random. I don’t think I’ve heard of seeds before,” Rupp said. “The first thing to do is Google your address and see what’s out there. Numerous things will come up when you Google your address. It’s kind of scary sometimes.”“Hopefully that’s all it is, but why?” Culley said. “We just can’t be too vigilant. We have to.
