The Bureau of Transportation Statistics released preliminary data on Monday, which shows U.S. airlines carried almost twice as many passengers in June than in May. According to the news release, BTS said data collected showed that 16.3 million passengers flew on large airlines in June, up from 8.4 million on all U.S. airlines in May.The BTS said airlines carried 80% fewer passengers in June than it did exactly one year ago.The data was by 20 airlines that carry 90% of the passengers, the agency said."June 2020 was the second consecutive month that the annual decrease in the number of U.S. airline passengers was less than annual change in the previous month," BTS reported.According to the agency, preliminary data showed a 77% decline in domestic passengers between June 2019 to June 2020 following more substantial annual reductions in May (88%) and April (96%).Preliminary data showed that international passengers on U.S. airlines declined 96% from June 2019 to June 2020, following annual decreases of 99% in April and 98% in May, the agency said.BTS says final U.S. airline traffic reports for June will be released on Sept. 11. International data by origin and destination, which is under a six-month confidentiality restriction, will be released on Dec. 10, the agency said. 1297

The Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill was evacuated after an alarm sounded. But it was given an all-clear a short time later.There are no reports yet on why and whether it was related to the string of explosive devices being received by politicians and media throughout the nation this week.The Hill reports the alarm went off and people were urged to calmly evacuate. Nearby Independence Avenue was shut down as authorities investigated.The building was built in Washington D.C. in 1908, according to the Architect of the Capitol website. In 1962, the building was named for former Speaker of the House Joseph Gurney Cannon. The family of a 14-year-old Arizona boy with autism is demanding accountability after a Buckeye, Arizona police officer mistook the child for a drug user and detained him.On July 18, the boy, Connor Leibel, was forced to the ground by the officer and suffered multiple scrapes to his back, arm and face.The entire incident was captured on body camera, which was obtained by Scripps station ABC15. The family of a Pennsylvania woman who died in jail in 2015 from heroin withdrawal symptoms was awarded .75 million in a wrongful death suit settlement this week, CBS News reported. Victoria "Tori" Herr, then 18, died on April 5, 2015, nine days after being arrested after police found drugs in the woman's apartment. Herr told police that she had consumed 10 bags of heroin a day. During her first four days in custody, Herr reportedly suffered from bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. She was treated with water and Ensure, but was unable to keep her fluids down. The result of those symptoms led her to cardiac arrest and to lose consciousness, CBS News reported. Herr's lawyers claimed that the Lebanon County Correctional Facility did not meet her basic medical needs, and then lied. "Anyone who looked at her would have known that she was very sick and that she needed attention," Herr's family lawyer Jonathan Feinberg told CBS. "There was a complete disregard for her needs, which can only be tied back to the fact that she was addicted to drugs."As part of the multi-million-dollar settlement, the jail's warden, nurses and other employees agree that there was no wrongdoing. To read CBS News' full report, click here.  1284
