OAXACA, Mexico (KGTV) - A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Mexico's southern Pacific coastline Friday, according to USGS.The earthquake struck in the state of Oaxaca shortly after 3:30 p.m., northeast of the city of Pinotepa de Don Luis. It was originally reported as a preliminary 7.5-magnitude quake, before being downgraded.A tsunami warning was not been issued for the area, according to NOAA.Initially Mexico's National Seismological Service reported more than 50 aftershocks in the hour following the earthquake. By 10:33 p.m. the seismological service tweeted that more than 200 aftershocks had occurred. RELATED: Earthquake shakes Baja California, Central MexicoAt least two people were killed when a helicopter carrying Mexico’s interior minister and Oaxaca Gov. Alejandro Murat crashed while serveying damage from the earthquake, according to Reuters. Murat reportedly was not injured.At least 100,000 people were left without power in Oaxaca and at least 50 homes were damaged by the earthquake as well.Social media video quickly began circulating online, showing the quake shake structures as far away as Mexico City. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) -- It's a 3,100-mile bike ride that starts from the Oceanside Pier Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Buzz Ponce, 69, will be riding his bike coast to coast from Oceanside to St. Augustine, Florida.  He is doing it to raise money for the Warrior's Heart Foundation. The foundation helps active military members, veterans and first responders dealing PTSD, alcohol abuse and drug addiction. Buzz says he started planning the bike ride two years ago. At first, he says it was all about seeing if he could do it, but then realized it would be better if he could use it to help others. "It really flashed on me that I should do something other than just about me. And that’s when I came across the idea of trying to raise money for a cause," Ponce said. The organization has a treatment center in San Antonio.  Ponce says his goal is to raise ,000 to hopefully start a scholarship for people that need to travel to the center.People can donate Buzz's cause here. If all goes as scheduled, Buzz will be in St. Augustine on July 1.  1091

One person has been confirmed dead after a huge fire engulfed and destroyed an apartment building in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo early Tuesday, according to state-run news agency Agencia Brasil.The dramatic fire broke out on the fifth floor of the 26-story building, which collapsed in a fireball an hour and a half later, according to the Brazilian Civil Defense.Seven other buildings were evacuated in the surrounding area. The blaze started at 1:36 a.m., according to a Sao Paulo Fire Department spokesman.The building was owned by the federal government and had previously served as the headquarters of the Federal Police. At the time of the fire it was occupied by low-income families who were part of the Front for Fighting for Housing, a social organization that advocates for fair housing, Agencia Brasil reported. 834

Oceanside may convert two of its elected city positions into City Council appointed ones, leading to concerns that the city is taking key decisions away from voters. The Oceanside City Council will decide Wednesday whether it should have the authority to appoint the City Clerk and City Treasurer. The city says the positions have become “significantly more complex” due to state laws and regulations. “Both positions perform critical City functions, and they require specialized education and experience to property discharge their many duties that likely cannot be properly achieved (or guaranteed) via an elected position.” The City Treasurer position has been a controversial one in Oceanside. In 2016, incumbent Gary Ernst died just weeks before the election, leaving Oceanside resident Nadine Scott as the lone living person on the ballot. However, multiple City Council members campaigned on Ernst’s behalf because they said Scott wasn’t qualified. Ernst won, clearing the way for the council to appoint Rafe Edward Trickey Jr. Scott said Monday she was troubled by the decision before the council. Current treasurer Victor Roy defeated Tricket Jr. in the 2018 election, and currently holds the office. City Clerk Zeb Navarro was recently appointed after Zack Beck stepped down to take a position in Escondido. Oceanside Mayor Peter Weiss said the jobs are part time and pay about ,000 a year.
