EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A chain reaction crash on SR-125 in East County sent two drivers to the hospital Monday.A 25-year-old woman driving a Hyundai failed to stop in time to avoid hitting a Toyota Camry at the Grossmont Center Dr. exit at 9:10 a.m., CHP Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.The Hyundai rear-ended the Camry, pushing the Camry into oncoming traffic on SR-125.A Chevy Impala driver on the freeway did not have time to react and struck the driver’s side of the Camry, officers said.Officers had to pull the Camry’s driver, a 23-year-old woman, from her vehicle. She was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with moderate to major injuries.The driver of the Impala had moderate injuries.The Hyundai’s driver, a 49-year-old woman, was not hurt.CHP officers do not suspect drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. 832

(KGTV) - After a series of crashes over the summer, people in El Cajon are calling on the city to add some safety measures to the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Renette Avenue."It's very dangerous," says Julia Reyes, who lives near the intersection. "We have a lot of families and kids crossing through here. We have two schools near here too.""It's a regular race track," says David Pina, who also lives on the corner. He recently replaced the fence in his yard because a suspected drunk driver plowed into it over Memorial Day weekend."We were all in the house and heard a big bang in the street and all of the sudden, boom, right in the yard," he says.The intersection has stop signs for cars headed East and West. There are also cones and left-turn restrictions in the middle of the intersection. Pina says that only makes it worse."That sign ends up in the street all the time," he says of the "No Left Turn" sign in the middle of the road. He adds that people ignore the cones and drive straight through the intersection illegally.Neighbors have asked the city to install traffic-calming measures. They think a stop sign, speed humps, flashing lights or a sturdier barrier could be a solution.10News reached out to the City of El Cajon to see if there have been any discussions about adding safety measures to the intersection. A spokesperson from the Department of Public Works asked us to submit a formal public records request. Because of the holiday weekend for Labor Day, the city has not had a chance to reply to that submission.For Pina, he hopes something can be done soon. He worries that the next crash may cost him more than just a fence."My grandson sleeps in that front room," he says. "You gotta worry about the kids. I if somebody did come through that fence and come into the house, there's no chance for anybody. Eight people were injured during a shooting at the Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Friday afternoon, chief of police Barry Weber told reporters. Weber confirmed that seven of the injured were adults, while one teen was among the victims. Weber did not know the extent of their injuries. Weber said when police arrived at the mall Friday afternoon, the shooter was no longer at the scene. As of early Friday evening, a suspect has not been found. A person said she heard gunshots near the food court in the mall. During a time where a large number of Florida residents are without power in the wake of Hurricane Irma, two Florida men were caught attempting to steal a ,500 utility pole.42-year-old Blake Lee Waller and 46-year-old Victor Walter Apeler were arrested on grand theft charges Wednesday after someone reported seeing them load the pole onto the top of their car, according to the Jacksonville sheriff’s office.A police report says that the two were spotted driving with the pole on top of their vehicle, they were then stopped by officials and arrested.The report says that one of the men told officials that he had to move the pole because it was on the ground so close to traffic lanes, according to the Associated Press.The sheriff's office tweeted a picture of the shirtless men sitting handcuffed on the sidewalk next to the car carrying the utility pole.  895

Eight college football games scheduled this weekend have been canceled due to the spread of the coronavirus. Among them, the championship game between unbeaten Coastal Carolina and Top 25 Louisiana-Lafayette was called off.The Sun Belt Conference canceled the contest because of a positive COVID-19 test from a member of Coastal Carolina, which resulted in an entire position group being forced to quarantine in order to follow protocol.“We are very disappointed that the championship game cannot be played, but we are so proud of all of the players and staff members and their hard work during this truly challenging season," said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. "We will honor both teams as 2020 Sun Belt Conference Co-Champions."Coastal Carolina defeated Louisiana in October by a 30-27 margin.Of the eight college football games canceled this weekend, five include a Top 25 team.The upcoming college football weekend features several big matchups that will determine the four teams that will be invited to the College Football Playoff.
