(KGTV) — While the North Complex Fire has left hundreds of thousands of acres charred, first responders found a sign of hope buried beneath the rubble last week.Butte County Sheriff's Office deputies and search and rescue personnel were sifting through the rubble of properties in the Berry Creek area on Friday, Sept. 11, when they made the unexpected and miraculous discovery.A puppy was discovered underneath blackened and charred remains of a property, according to the department. The puppy had some minor burns and was taken to Valley Oak Veterinary Center in Chico for treatment.BCSO says that the property owner reportedly had several dogs and was not able to locate the one that was left behind before evacuating in time.Deputies decided it was only appropriate to name the dog "Trooper" after finding it alive.A social media post by the department was filled with gratitude and heartwarming messages, as Northern California has seen the North Complex Fire burn 258,802 acres through Butte and Plumas counties since Aug. 18. (KGTV) — Next time you hail an Uber or Lyft, maybe consider some hand sanitizer after touching that door handle.That's because ride-sharing vehicles are on average about 35,000 times germier than a toilet seat, according to a new study by insurance provider Netquote. Ridesharing measured about 6,055,963 colony-colony forming units (CFU) compared to an average toilet with 171.61 CFU.Rideshare vehicles were far ahead of rental cars and even taxis on the study's germ index, and worse than toothbrush holders, coffee reservoirs, and toilets. On average, we found more than 5 million [colony-forming units]/sq. in. on the tiny buttons. The seat belts, too, held high levels of bacteria: more than 1 million CFU/sq. in.," the study says. "Interestingly, the door handles were the cleanest surface, with 1,810 CFU/sq. in. However, one study showed that the average car door handle holds 28 microorganisms per square inch – meaning the average rideshare door handle is 64 times germier."The study compared three random ride-share cars, three taxis and three rental cars.While not all germs are harmful, higher levels of some bacteria pose a risk. (KGTV) — Southern California police say they've arrested two people and seized 0,000 in electronics and gift cards in connection to a nationwide phone scam investigation.Fontana Police have arrested Ailing Lu, 25, of Los Angeles and Ji Hyun Lee, 25, of Gardena, over the scam they believe has affected hundreds of victims around the country.Investigators say a victim reported a cold call on Sept. 4 of a scammer impersonating an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official. The scammer threatened to arrest the victim if they didn't pay them ,200 in Target gift cards.The victim eventually provided the gift cards to the caller and later reported the incident to police.Police tracked the redemption of the gift cards to a Los Angeles Target location, where they investigated surveillance videos of the transactions. Target reported a similar incident from Indiana University Police and investigators compared the two case videos and transactions. Police say they had enough evidence to identify and arrest Lu and Lee after they conducted surveillance on suspected locations and vehicles in Los Angeles.Police served search warrants on two locations as well, discovering about 0,000 in things like gaming systems and computer devices, gift cards, and gift cards from victims.Fontana Police warned the public to contact law enforcement if they receive a similar call and threatening requests.
