The United States Marshals Service announced that its Operation Safety Net has concluded and a total of 35 missing children were recovered in northeast Ohio as a result.The U.S. Marshals Service, working with state and local partners over the past month to locate and recover missing children and teens from the Cleveland area, were able to recover 35 of the 40 missing children referred to them for the operation.According to the U.S. Marshals Service, around 20% of the recoveries were tied to human trafficking cases and were subsequently referred to the Human Trafficking Task Force in Cuyahoga County.U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio Pete Elliott said the operation's success exceeded expectations."When I went into this, I thought if we had one or two, it was going to be a success," said Elliott, "and now after the first month, just look at how many are out there."As a result of the operation, The United States Marshals for the Northern District of Ohio has created a permanent Missing Child Unit throughout the 40 counties within the district.“We are proud to assist in Operation Safety Net and I commend the United States Marshals Service for their hard work and dedication toward locating these children," Chief John Majoy of Newburg Heights said in a press release. He said the agency received additional funding for Operation Safety Net from Washington. Three days later, Sydney died unexpectedly. Officials say a preliminary necropsy shows Sydney died of a "systemic infection" - which begins in one area and then moves to the bloodstream, affecting the entire body.The pup, who has not yet been named, is being hand-raised by zookeepers and animal care staff. He was the fifth pup born to Sydney and her companion, Ringo."Keepers are assist-feeding the pup five times daily with a milk replacer formula made specifically for marine mammals which includes a high fat content and vitamins," a news release from the Zoo says. "Normally, harbor seals nurse 4-6 weeks before weaning. In the meantime, finely ground fish is gradually being added to the formula. A camera in the cockpit captured it all. When you slow down the video, you can see a bird fly right through the windshield, forcing Weber to declare an emergency as he approached the airport in Fort Myers, Florida. “After I’d taken the hit to the head, I was really dazed,” Weber recalls. “I was having a hard time communicating with them, because I was knocked silly. I really couldn't focus on where I was or what was going on.” The latest data shows there are a record number of bird strikes involving planes, with more than 40 a day on average. A big reason for the spike: more flights and a jump in the bird population. “It's a classic probability situation. More planes and more large birds in the air at the same time,” explains Michael Begier with the National Bird Strike Committee. Begier works with the organization to track incidents and find ways to reduce them. Statistically speaking, the highest chances of being involved in bird strike are from July through October, during the day and while approaching the airport. The accident involving US Airways Flight 1549, known as the Miracle on the Hudson, is perhaps the most memorable and extreme example of how damaging bird strikes can be.
