ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — An arrest has been made in connection with an Escondido house fire this week where a man was found unresponsive and later died.Jose Trinidad Romero, 32, was arrested Wednesday after his truck was stopped by police in Escondido. Investigators said they believe Romero knew the man found unresponsive in the fire, but are unsure of the exact relationship. On Oct. 4, firefighters and police responded to the fire in the 600 block of Waverly Place. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was found inside unresponsive. The manner and cause of his death are still under investigation.Investigators say evidence at the scene pointed to the fire being deliberately set. Fast food sandwich chain Subway expects to close about 500 stores in North America this year.But it's also hoping to open as many as 1,000 stores overseas.The company has 44,000 locations globally -- more than any other retailer. The National Retail Federation put its US store count at nearly 27,000 as of 2016, compared to 17,500 for Yum Brands, which runs Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC, and the 14,000 locations for McDonald's.The company said Wednesday it expects stores to close after it rolls out a revitalization plan, announced last summer, that will require franchise owners to invest more in their operations. All Subway stores are franchise owned, rather than owned by the company. The plans to revamp locations include adding self-service kiosks, more comfortable seating and Wi-Fi and USB charging ports. In February, Subway also announced plans for a loyalty program to win back customers and stem slumping sales.Store closings are new for Subway. It had a net loss of more than 350 US stores in 2016, the first year in the company's history that it trimmed rather than increased its number of stores. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred during a traffic stop in Escondido early Friday morning.The incident happened at around 3:45 a.m. on Broadway, near Washington Avenue, according to Escondido police.Police said officers were initially called to a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue due to a reported restraining order violation. In the call, a woman said her former husband, 44-year-old Rosendo Sandoval Quezada was at her home and she identified his vehicle.On Broadway, an officer spotted a white car being driven by Quezada and pulled him over.According to police, Quezada "exited his vehicle holding a 3-foot long crow bar and ran toward the officer."Police confirmed the situation prompted the officer to fire multiple shots. Quezada was struck in the abdomen, and he was transported to Palomar Hospital for treatment of his injuries.Police said the officer, who was not injured in the incident, is a 4-year veteran of the department. A lieutenant at the scene told 10News he believes this was the first time the officer was involved in a shooting. The officer was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.According to police, the officer’s body camera was active during the incident.A stretch of Broadway at Washington Ave. was closed for several hours due to the probe. 1364

Moderator Paul Scafidi told the woman that she could not wear the shirt while voting, according to Sea Coast Online.Scafidi said the woman asked why another woman in the polling station was allowed to wear a shirt with an American flag while voting. Scafidi said he determined that an American flag shirt did not constitute as electioneering — a judgment call that he, as the moderator, is required to make.Scafidi then told Sea Coast Online that the woman asked if she should take her shirt off, even though she was wearing nothing underneath."I said, I'd rather she not," Scafidi said, according to Sea Coast Online. "But she took it off so fast, no one had time to react. So the whole place just went, 'woah,' and she walked away, and I let her vote.
