(KGTV) — A La Jolla woman may have new evidence that the iconic sea wall at the Children's Pool is increasingly crumbling.Architectural historian Diane Kane spent time in 2017 and 2018 taking photos of different parts of the sea wall in an effort to earn it a historical designation. She recently went back to take more and found that the wall's walking path is increasingly disintegrated, and its railings even more rusted over. RELATED: Coastal Commission approves permit to protect seals during pupping season"I don't know if we had a particularly strong winter last year or if this is just at a point where it's had deferred maintenance for so long that it's really starting to go quickly," Kane said.Ellen Browning Scripps donated the wall in 1931, creating what's now known as the Children's Pool. Kane, a trustee of the La Jolla Community Planning Association, says a historic designation could help generate funds to preserve the sea wall. She spent two years writing a historic report, which she submitted to the National Register of Historic Places. That's why she went back to the sea wall in recent weeks to take more photos, at which point she noticed the changes. (KGTV) - Neighbors are calling for more safety measures after surveillance video captured a fiery collision at an intersection in Jamul.A week ago, just before 5 p.m., Marc Burnett was opening up his off-road racing shop along Campo Road, when he heard it."I heard the skid marks hitting, and then I heard the boom," said Burnett.He ran outside and was greeted by flames."I just saw flames in the air. I saw a lot of flames. I saw the guy on the ground. He was on fire," said Burnett.Burnett raced back inside."I got the fire extinguisher, and had to put the motorcycle out -- and him," said Burnett.Burnett says the motorcycle driver, a man in his 30s, suffered serious burns to his hands and legs, but survived."He was very lucky that he survived," said Burnett.Burnett even more amazed when he looked at his surveillance video.In it you can see the truck pulling into the intersection from Maxfield Road and stop, before the eastbound motorcycle slams into the side of the truck, exploding into flames."Very scary to see that video. Didn’t know it was that bad until I saw it," said Burnett.Sadly, it was not unfamiliar.Burnett, who’s been in the area for more than 15 years, says he’s seen the aftermath of some eight serious accidents at that intersection, including a person killed crossing the road."It’s kind of a blind turn ... People coming out where the truck coming out ... It's hard to judge," said Burnett.Burnett is now lobbying for a traffic light at that intersection, which is often busy with casino traffic."Drivers are passing semi trucks on the turn. It's dangerous. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rep. Steve Watkins, R-Kansas, faces criminal charges associated with voting irregularities.Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced Tuesday that Watkins has been charged with interfering with law enforcement by providing false information, voting without being qualified and unlawful advance voting. All three charges are felonies.Watkins also faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to notify the Department of Motor Vehicles of a change of address.Kagay said his office was notified of the allegations in December and asked the Shawnee County Sheriff’s office to conduct an investigation.An affidavit in the case was submitted Tuesday by the sheriff’s office to Shawnee County prosecutors.Kagay said the sheriff’s office is handling the investigation.Watkins serves as representative for Kansas’ 2nd Congressional District, which includes Topeka, Lawrence, Atchison and other parts of eastern Kansas outside the Kansas City area.This story was originally published by Sam Hartle on KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri. 1052
