The report by GOBankRates lists San Diego as one of the 15 worst placed to buy a home in the country. The site says home prices in San Diego have increased by 1.8 percent over the last year. In the last five years, home values have grown by a little more than 33 percent. “The populous city of San Diego may be home to over 1.3 million people, but home values grow slower than some of the smaller, neighboring cities. San Diego only saw home values increase at a rate of 1.8% over the past year,” the site says. A better option, the website says, is National City, where home values have increased over the last five years by more than 49 percent. “National City offers a smaller footprint for a better value. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man was hospitalized after becoming stuck in a cargo elevator shaft at a downtown grocery store.San Diego Fire-Rescue was called to Ralph's grocery store on G St. just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday to a report of someone stuck in the elevator. Crews arrived to find a man who had been working on the elevator trapped in the elevator shaft.Firefighters worked to free the man and take him to a nearby hospital. The extent of his injuries wasn't immediately known.A witness who works at the grocery store said the man was working on the cargo shaft when someone pressed the elevator button, trapping the man inside. 640

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Minnesota man suspected of possessing child pornography may be in San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.Jamison Michael Nelson, 40, was the focus of a news release issued Monday to alert the public.San Diego Police did not release details about the charges, but information from DL-online.com indicated a man named Jamison Michael Nelson was charged with six felony counts of possessing pornographic works on a computer.The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received an alert from Google indicating that three images which may have been child pornography had been uploaded to a Gmail account, according to the report.DL-online.com reported that a search of Nelson’s residence turned up a hard drive hidden in a coffee pot.San Diego Police did not indicate why they believe Nelson may be in our area.He is white, six-feet tall, 185 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. 934

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local doctor says even though a COVID-19 vaccine will be available soon, it will still be several months before we see the impact.Dr. Mark Sawyer, an infectious disease specialist at Rady Children’s Hospital, is on the State Advisory Board that reviews COVID-19 vaccines. He spoke to ABC 10News about the importance of getting this vaccine.“The vaccine is safe, and it works, and we absolutely need this vaccine to deal with the pandemic,” Sawyer said.However, Sawyer added a warning: “If people suddenly think that we’re out of the woods now, and stop wearing masks and distancing from each other, then we’re going to still see the kinds of numbers that we’re seeing right now.”Despite intense discussions among the FDA advisory panel regarding whether Pfizer’s vaccine is safe to use on 16- and 17-year-olds, Sawyer points to the research that was done, saying the drug was tested on individuals from that age group.“There’s no reason to think that a 16-year-old or 17-year-old is going to have a reaction that an 18-year-old is going to have. I think it’s perfectly safe,” Sawyer told ABC 10News.Sawyer also described the side effects one may feel after getting the vaccine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego financial expert in San Diego has a message for women looking for success: a man is not a financial plan.Most women would rather talk with the grandmothers about their love lives than talk about financial planning, according to an investment survey done by Oppenheimer Funds.CPA Ginita Wall has a clear message.“Every marriage ends in either divorce or widowhood and 70 percent of the time it’s the woman who’s left alone,” said Wall. “Then thinking that magically, someday, I’ll start saving for retirement, someday I’ll be able to buy a house; living in the someday and not really planning for it today.”Wall moved her CPA practice to San Diego 31 years ago. She realized there was a need.“Women were out in the marketplace, but they weren't managing the money, and sadly, often nobody was.”Wall and financial planner Candace Bahr launched the Women’s Institute for Financial Education (WIFE), a nonprofit to give women the tools to start making a difference.“We didn't have anything to sell anybody. Our whole goal was and continues to be ‘our goal is education,’” said Bahr.Wall and Bahr established Second Saturday, a monthly workshop to teach women what they need to know during divorce. Each session brings in an attorney for matters of the court. Wall gives financial advice, a counselor helps with family issues, and a mediator can settle the differences.
