(KGTV) — Heavy rains and slick roads may have contributed to a fatal motorcycle crash in Oceanside.A 22-year-old man riding a Yamaha motorcycle on northbound Interstate 5 just south of State Route 76 crashed just after 10 p.m. Friday, just as lightning, thunder, and heavy rain pounded the area, according to California Highway Patrol.The man was transitioning from NB I-5 to the SR-76 off-ramp when he veered off the side of the road and up a dirt embankment. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego Humane Society is asking for the public's help in solving an animal cruelty investigation. Around 5:30 p.m. on April 29 Humane Officers received a call about a loose goat running in and out of traffic at the busy Oceanside intersection of College Boulevard and Marvin Street.Oceanside resident Scott Palmer made the call when he noticed the goat on his commute home. “I literally told him to sit and stay, don’t know what I was thinking but I tried to distract him, and then he followed me to my car," said Palmer.Palmer described him as being as friendly as a dog.A Humane Law Officer picked up the goat and then received surveillance video of the incident. The footage shows two people abandoning the goat and driving away in a 4-door, white pickup truck.“It’s ok for you to come to us, please don’t abandon your animals when you can bring them to San Diego Humane Society and we'll take care of it for you," said Dariel Walker, with the Humane Society. She says if you cannot afford the fee, the Humane Society can still help. One of the largest anti-smoking groups is now going after cigarette makers for their trash.The Truth Initiative released a new video in an effort to combat the littering of cigarette butts. It debuted nationally last week during the MTV Video Music Award.The organization is tying this latest campaign into their public petition to get more businesses and public places to go smoke-free.Cigarette butts are the most littered item on the planet, and it’s the most picked up item from beaches all over the world.They contain hundreds of chemicals that show up in wildlife and waterways. The butts are made with a type of plastic that can take a decade or more to decompose.Cigarette makers have tried cleaning up their act over the years, but so far, nothing has really made a dent.There is a startup company that claims to have a biodegradable cigarette filter, which breaks down in a matter of days. (KGTV) — The pandemic is creating a serious budget crunch for the volunteer non-profit organizations that provide key funding and support city libraries across San Diego County.Gail Wells of the Friends of Oceanside Library says fundraising efforts have almost completely dried up. “We make ,000 a year on book sales. And we make ,000 on Farmer’s Market sales. We’ve lost that. We can’t have any book sales," says Wells.Other fundraisers have had to be canceled, as well. Wells says they have tried to get creative, including selling used books on Amazon and offering drive-through boxed book sales, where for , people can buy a box of books in a particular genre without knowing precisely what books they will receive. “A lot of people will say I don’t need a box of books. And we’ll say all you need to to get one book you like and it pays for your box of books. Sometimes it works," Wells said.The fundraising woes come at the worst possible time for Friends of the Oceanside Public Library because they are about to lose their office/sorting room. That’s because the city is tearing down the building to make way for a new fire station.
