For families anguished that they can't be in Normandy themselves, an Englishman who lives there is laying wreaths on their behalf. Steven Oldrid says it is an honor to do it. BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - A City of Chula Vista spokesman said the city does not have any immediate plans to redevelop the Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course despite a report that showed roughly 2,700 homes built on the Bonita-area course.“For anybody to want to take it away, it’s hurtful,” exclaimed Bonita resident Xochitl Rouston.A report called “Redevelopment of the Chula Vista Municipal Golf Course” was shared on a Bonita Facebook group by a member who found the report online. The report outlines options to redevelop the area currently occupied by the course and parts of Rohr Park, which is in Chula Vista but borders Bonita.“Where are we going to take the kids?  Where are we going to go walking?  Where are we going to have our parties?” questioned Rouston who has lived in Bonita for more than 40 years.A Chula Vista spokesman told 10News the city completed a study in 2015 that said revenue at the course was declining and it wasn’t generating enough revenue to refurbish the course.  The report in question was issued so the city could “know what our options are should the golf course not be able to generate a return and pay for itself.” The spokesman emphasized the city is in the very early stages and there is no timeline for any projects.“We’re just trying to raise awareness, get everybody together,” said Rouston, who said they were surprised to learn any redevelopment was being considered.The Chula Vista spokesman said the Bonita residents would be notified of any discussions or meetings pertaining to the golf course or Rohr Park. 1594

Bruises, loss of vision or the loss of an eye – injuries during protests have drawn more attention to what police call "non-lethal" tools.An expert tells us there are certain categories: Chemical weapons like tear gas, electric devices like Tasers, impact weapons like batons, and kinetic impact munitions, meaning any fire projectiles, including bean bag rounds.“You tend to see grenade launchers being used in crowd control, more than anything else,” said Charlie Mesloh, a professor of criminal justice at Northern Michigan University. “Also, you're going to see shotguns only because they're plentiful and they're, you know, they're accurate.”Mesloh is also a former officer who has conducted research on these weapons. He says what many people have started calling “rubber bullets” are actually skip-fired munitions. Those are the most concerning to him because they're less predictable.Skip-fired munitions are typically shot out of a grenade launcher with a few rounds inside. They're meant to be bounced off the ground to cut down on some of the sting.Mesloh says that after looking at pictures of injuries, he thinks some are being fired directly at people.“There are some problems and with how these are being used, some of them might be training,” said Mesloh. “Some of them also could be more environmental. They're like, they're wearing a gas mask and they can't see.”Mesloh says there's no reason police should ever be shooting someone in the head, unless they're trying to kill them. 1506

The retailer says it will spread the traditional Black Friday savings throughout the season and will have more deals available online.“We’ve heard from our customers that many plan on starting their holiday shopping well before Black Friday and that they’re looking for gifts that fit their current lifestyle,” said Scott McCall, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S. “So, we’ve adjusted our strategy to adapt to these new shopping preferences – we’re offering more of what they want now, earlier than ever, and all at the best prices.”No additional details were provided about the Black Friday expansion, but the store said it will share more soon.Seasonal hiring to meet online demandWith many Americans expected to do much of their shopping online this year, Walmart says it will hire more than 20,000 seasonal associates in its eCommerce fulfillment centers across the country. BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. - Up and down South Florida, garbage can be found along our streets, parking lots, and sidewalks.A Boynton Beach man and his group of volunteers, known as the "Litter Hikers of America," are trying to reverse the trend to create a litter-free environment.Sunrises in sunny South Florida are a special moment."Really nice and calming for me. I enjoy it," said Richard Reyes. "This is my coffee right here."Reyes takes it in every morning before checking his tools, supplies, and his route for the day."Going to be a very good day. Hope to get lots of litter," said Reyes.On this day, he and his crew were on Federal Highway in Boynton Beach."When I walk, I do the median and crew does the sides," said Reyes, who was joined by his friends Suzie and Shawn.They have quite a few fans. The three of them search the streets, sidewalks, and parking lots."I have a facemask, gloves," said Reyes as he picked up trash.There are bad surprises and sometimes good. On this day the Publix parking lot was clean.No matter the weather, Reyes is out there."Six times a week. Sometimes seven," said Reyes.Reyes has been picking up trash since his days on the west coast of Florida, back when life threw him a curveball."Aortic valve replacement and an aneurism repaired," said Reyes.Following his recovery, Reyes started walking and gathering trash."I can’t go long distances like I used to. So walking is very healthy for me and that’s a big reason why I do it," said Reyes. "I came out here and continue the effort in Boynton Beach."At the end of his cleanups, he weighs his garbage. He collects data too."43,200 pounds of litter this year," said Reyes.Proof that Reyes has a long journey ahead of him, but he knows each step along South Florida’s streets, inches him closer to his goal. Can’t beat it," said Reyes.Reyes is now retired and plans to do his clean-ups as long as he can.
