CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- Students in the south bay could get free lunches this June. The Sweetwater Union High School District announced Monday that its popular meal program is making a comeback. Called the “Seamless Summer Feeding Program,” free meals are being offered for most of June. According to the district, the free meals are available to anyone 18 and younger. The program runs from June 10 through June 28 Monday through Friday from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. The free lunches are being offered at Montgomery High School and Sweetwater Union High. According to the district, no registration is needed. “Just come and enjoy some great food,” a flyer from the district reads. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista Police have arrested six suspects in an assault with a deadly weapon and robbery of a 16-year-old boy that occurred at a Chula Vista restaurant last Thursday, law enforcement officials announced.Police officials said that four juveniles and two adults, all of whom are suspected of participating in the April 11 attack, were taken into custody on Wednesday. Four of the suspects, aged between 15- and 17-years-old, attended Morse High School and have since been suspended.The two adult suspects, Kent Pasunting, 18, and Aldrin Uy, 19, attended Mark Twain High School, an alternative/continuation high school with a campus located at Morse High School. The victim and family, along with representatives of the Cotixan restaurant, all cooperated in the investigation. Officials with the San Diego Unified School District helped police to identify the attackers," said Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum.The incident was captured on cell phone video and posted to social media by the teen's mother. All six suspects were identified, in part, by the video, Collum said.The family says their teen was waiting for his mom to pick him up at Cotixan Mexican Restaurant last Thursday after school, when a group of teens walked in and started kicking and punching the boy.In the video, you can see someone on the ground getting repeatedly punched and kicked. He says everything started days before on Instagram, when, he says, his son told someone to stop harassing one of his friends. Martin says one teen then started messaging his son telling him he was going to beat him up.Martin says the incident was reported to Chula Vista Police but he's worried the teens will get away with what they did.Collum said the dispute began last month when the victim and suspect got into a heated exchange on social media over comments made to one of the victim’s friends. "On April 11th the victim and his girlfriend were sitting at the Cotixan restaurant when the suspects walked-in unexpectedly," Collum said. Children and the elderly may be good at spreading the coronavirus among their age groups, and young adults may be the primary source of community spread, or “super spreading,” according to a new study.The study, published Wednesday, involved the coronavirus testing results of a large contract tracing effort in two states in India. Researchers had results from more than half a million people from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh regions traced after more than 80,000 primary, or index, positive cases.They found that only 8 percent of index cases accounted for 60 percent of new infections. And that about 70 percent of infected people did not infect any of their contacts."That's a hugely disproportionate effect. (KGTV) - A fire in a drainage tunnel had Chula Vista firefighters donning protective masks Thursday.The fire broke out about 4:30 Thursday afternoon at Eastlake Parkway and Otay Lakes Road, near the Vons and Lowe's shopping centers. It was quickly knocked down."Witnesses reported smoke billowing from a storm drain and several people running from the area," Chula Vista Fire IAFF local 2180 officials posted on twitter. Things like valuing every moment and never take time for granted. ABC 10News caught up with Padilla as part of our Positively San Diego, A Season of Hope series. Padilla beat COVID-19 after spending weeks in the ICU, 11 days on a ventilator. Padilla says the love and support of the community has been overwhelming. After beating COVID-19 and weeks of recovery, Padilla got back to work as city councilman, while also campaigning for reelection. He won his reelection by a landslide. The councilman says he is incredibly thankful for the healthcare workers still battling this pandemic, especially the ones that saved his life. While he says he's looking forward to the new year and being able to hug people he hasn't hugged in months, he recognizes there is still so much work to be done before the pandemic is under control. 1008
