LEXINGTON, Ky. — A year of unexpected stress has caused at least one dietitian to see more patients with significant weight gain and heart disease, which she warns could become worse over the holidays.University of Kentucky Gill Heart and Vascular Institute Cardiopulmonary Rehab Dietitian Shorus Minella said the pandemic has caused weight gain to become an issue with more and more people to remain indoors and be more inactive than usual.Minella said an easy tip to staying healthy is to keep healthy foods on hand for snacking.She also shared her trick for practicing moderation "When you do feel like you want to snack and you're feeling stress to help pull back how much you're actually eating," Minella said. "I love potato chips so I make sure I put them in a little small bowl. Take the bowl away from the kitchen and away from the bag and once I'm done eating them out of that container that bowl, I'm done with my chips."With the season for special holiday treats in full swing, Minella explained how everyone can keep within their diets."You don't want to deprive yourself of the things that you possibly wouldn't get day-to-day all year round," she said. "So I like to say, save the calories for the little special things that you usually don't have. So if you don't usually have those Christmas gingerbread cookies, make room for them have room for them, maybe cut out some soda or sweet tea that you usually would have, and save your calories on the special things that you wouldn't get all year round."She encouraged those preparing food to trade out healthier options like low-fat milk for whole milk on a recipe.With heart disease ranking as the leading cause of death in the U.S. in 2019 and with obesity numbers on the rise throughout the country since 1999, Minella said small changes like making a bit of time for exercise can go a long way."If you can't go outside because of the weather, making sure to do chair exercises, or I like to remind people just marching in place, counts as well," she said. "So just something to get moving a little bit more. And then when you do feel like eating, think about if you're bored or not, or if you're hungry and think about those hunger cues as well."Minella encouraged everyone to try a heart-healthy diet that tries to reduce the amount of saturated fat by focusing on lean meats like chicken, turkey and fish."If you're paying attention to what you're eating, you're paying attention to enough to, I don't want to say feel 'bad,' but you're paying attention enough to have those feelings and that's great start," she said. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman who says she was drugged and raped by Daniel Dorado while on a job interview at his La Jolla Restaurant nearly three years ago, is sharing her story only with 10News.Dorado was arrested Wednesday on 18 counts, including rape. RELATED: La Jolla restaurant owner arrested on 18 charges, including rapeThe woman, who requested her identity be protected, said the alleged assault happened at Voce Del Mare on the night of April 27, 2015."I went in there for a job interview, I would never have imagined going through a sexual assault and not knowing how it happened," the accuser said. She tells 10News it began when she answered an ad on Craigslist for a hostess position. She recalls arriving around 9:30 p.m. for an interview with Dorado, who at one point offered her a glass of wine, which she accepted. What happened next is unclear."What I do recall is waking up around four in the morning and I did not have any clothes on...he had nothing on," she said.The people who had been at the restaurant when she arrived were gone, and she said she was locked in, alone with Dorado. It was then that she remembers the phone ringing. On the other end was her mother, wondering where she was. "Honestly I feel because my mother called the restaurant around four something in the morning is what made him let me leave, knowing that somebody knew I was there," she said. The accuser said she knew she'd been assaulted because of how her body felt. "I had vaginal discomfort," she said. "I felt as if there must have been penetration at some point, bruises around my chest, I was in great pain."Although she filed a police report, she was ultimately told there was not enough evidence to charge Dorado, until now. "Knowing that I'm not the only one, I want justice and I hope that if there's anybody out there who knows this individual, who was a victim, that they come forward so there can be justice," she said.  2006

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - The future of organ transportation may be passing through La Jolla. Physicians at Scripps Green Hospital recently moved a donated liver from Escondido to La Jolla in a new transport system before successfully transplanting it into a police officer. The effort was part of a clinical trial evaluating the transportation system, known as OCS (Organ Care System) Liver, at several major transplant medical centers across the United States. “It’s almost like putting the organ back in the body right away,” said Christopher Marsh, M.D, organ transplant surgeon and division head of Scripps Center for Organ and Cell Transplantation. The OCS is relatively larger than a microwave and pumps oxygenated blood along with other nutrients to the livers in transit. “We are constantly challenged by a shortage of livers to meet the transplant needs of our patients,” added Marsh, “warm perfusion transportation has the potential to expand the supply of organs that are available to our patients and, as a result, improve the chances of a successful transplant and a positive long-term health outcome for more of our patients.” Scripps expect to enroll nine more patients using the mechanical system in the clinical trial over the next year. 1263

(KGTV) - A speeding U-Haul truck turned a neighborhood near La Mesa into a dumping ground Saturday afternoon. Along Tropico Drive, the sound of a speeding vehicle - and then a loud thud - startled Steve Haase in his driveway.  In the middle of the road was a couch, carpet padding, tile and a painting.    Haase lives on a cul-de-sac, so he knew the vehicle would have to come back around.  Haase walked into the road, and saw a mid-sized U-Haul truck.  He saw two men in their early 20s inside, laughing."They're coming down the street and I put my hand up.  They stop, but they get close, so I get out of the way. I then asked him if he was going to pick it up.  They said, 'Of course,' and then took off with big speed," said Haase.  810
