POWAY, Calif., (KGTV)-- Fire crews battled a house fire in Poway Sunday afternoon after neighbors heard hissing sounds and an explosion. Poway and San Diego Fire departments responded to the 13,000 block of Silver Saddle Lane after getting a 9-1-1 call at around 1:15 pm. When crews arrived, they found the side of the home on fire. "The fire was just on the garage and the exterior of the garage. It appears it did not make it into the house," Poway Fire Battalion Chief Ray Fried said. Batt. Chief Fried said the methane levels were too high, above 0 ppm, which meant his fire crews needed to stand down until SDG&E cleared the gas leak. "We're not going inside at this time, because the gas readings are fairly high inside the house," Batt. Chief Fried said. No one was inside the home at the time of the explosion. The trees are considered a fire hazard on a popular fire evacuation route. Wildfire is a major concern in Poway. Twelve years ago, the Witch Creek Fire destroyed 90 homes. Four years earlier, driven by Santa Ana winds, the Cedar Fire roared through Poway destroying 53 homes.Adrian Burfield drives Twin Peaks every day and says a lot of trees need to come down.Adrian Burfield says, “It’s long overdue. Some of the trees are leaning. I just drive by there and see future problems. (KGTV) - Photographs of a man who deputies say flashed a pistol in his waistband at a Poway Walmart clerk were released Friday in the effort to find him.Poway Sheriff’s deputies said the man went to the store at 13425 Community Road on Saturday, November 10 at 8 p.m. and approached the customer service counter.The man displayed a silver and black semi automatic pistol and told the clerk to open the cash register, deputies said. The employee turned over the cash drawer and the man got away with cash.Deputies describe the man as African-American, between 30 and 40 years old, 5’10” to six feet tall, unshaven, and with a medium complexion. He was wearing a blue baseball cap with white lettering and a picture of a marlin fish on the front.
