TAMPA, Fla. — A kitten in Florida is recovering after being stabbed in the face with a dart.Jennifer Tate volunteers with the St. Francis Society Animal Rescue and she can’t wait to bring home the kitten.“We saved a cat about two and half years ago that had been shot with an arrow and we named him Sir Robin. So, we thought it would be appropriate to name her Maid Marian, the love interest of Sir Robin Hood," said Tate.Hillsborough County Animal Services is trying to find out who’s responsible for hurting the cat.“The person that found her said she could not open her mouth, so it had pierced all the way through and actually into part of her throat," Tate said.Someone found the kitten on Aimiee Court, south of Bearss Avenue in Tampa.“It’s horrific. How does somebody walk up to a cat and jam something into her face? And walk away. How do you sleep at night," said Tate.If Maid Marian is ready, she’ll have surgery Friday at Gulf Coast Veterinary Center.Tate will foster her, but eventually, the hope is the kitten will be adopted.“We want her to have the best life and to be able to put this behind her. And we want to catch the person who did it so we can stop him from hurting more cats," she said.Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Hillsborough County Animal Services at 813-744-5660.If anyone wants to help with Maid Marian's care, St. Francis Society Animal Rescue accepts donations at https://stfrancisrescue.org/This story was originally published by Erik Waxler at WFTS. 1515

The bonus of Jeffrey Mezger, one of the most powerful people in real estate, will be slashed by 25% after he went on an anti-gay tirade against his neighbor, comedian Kathy Griffin.Mezger, the CEO of homebuilder KB Home, used multiple homophobic and sexist slurs against Griffin and her partner. The tirade was caught on a security camera and a two-minute clip was published on Tuesday by HuffPost."Let's declare war, ass---- ... Let's bring it on, you b----," Mezger said during one of the tamer parts of the security camera audio recording. The verbal outburst occurred last weekend after Griffin and her partner called the police to report a noise disturbance on Mezger's property.KB Home revealed on Thursday that its board of directors decided to cut Mezger's 2017 bonus by 25%. It warned him that a similar incident will result in his firing. 865

SUNLAND (CNS) - Firefighters Friday used a helicopter to hoist a horse to safety after the animal became stranded down a hillside on private property in Sunland.Rescuers were sent to the 11300 block of North Oro Vista Avenue shortly before 7 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The 30-year-old male horse, named Sunny, apparently was not injured, but was lying on the ground, and efforts to help him to his feet were unsuccessful, the LAFD reported.A helicopter was brought in, a veterinarian medicated Sunny, and the 800- to 900-pound horse was airlifted on a sling about 10 a.m. to safe ground, where he was to be examined for possible injury. 668

Stroll your local mall and you may spot some empty storefronts where mannequins once stood draped in the latest fashions — possible casualties of what some have dubbed the “retail apocalypse.”Not everyone agrees it’s all doom and gloom for brick-and-mortar stores, but challenges certainly exist. Major retailers have announced plans to close thousands of locations in the U.S., and the final tally for 2017 could number around 9,500 stores, according to projections from Fung Global Retail & Technology, an industry think tank. But just because a store turns out its lights doesn’t mean the end is also nigh for your store credit card. Its fate depends on the retailer’s business plans and decisions made by the bank that issues the card. The better you understand the process, the better you can manage your credit and keep it in good standing. 857

The band Smash Mouth is facing criticism for playing a concert to a large crowd that were reportedly mostly mask-less. The band headlined the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally being held this week in South Dakota.Images from Sunday night’s Smash Mouth concert show a crowd packed shoulder to shoulder in some places, with few people wearing masks. At one point in the concert, a band member addressing the crowd can be heard saying "F*** that Covid s***,” according to KOTA-TV. It's unclear what he's saying before or after that comment. The group defended the concert in a statement given to Billboard; band manager Robert Hayes said "the promoter did a fantastic job with their COVID protocol. They had a very strict social distancing and mask policy in place for all workers."Hayes added comments about the "endless hours" spent to ensure the concert happened as safely as possible and “we are very happy with the outcome."Sturgis city officials allowed the annual event to go on this year, despite pleas from residents, and recommend visitors wear masks and social distance. However, masks are not required.Numbers from the South Dakota Department of Transportation indicate attendance numbers are similar to 2019 for the first few days:Friday, August 7: 49,835 entering – down 4.3% from Friday last yearSaturday, August 8: 54,804 entering – down 8.0% from Saturday last yearSunday, August 9: 56,149 entering – up 1.1% from Sunday last yearThis is the 80th year of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. In recent years, the event has drawn between 500,000 and 700,000 people. 1568
