SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Thursday released a picture of the vehicle used in a deadly hit-and-run in Logan Heights last week. 52-year-old Maria Estrada Romero was hit while walking near Cesar Chavez Parkway on her way to a bus stop on November 15. Two days later, she died at the hospital. Police say the driver didn’t call 911, or stop to render aid to Romero. RELATED: Woman critically injured in Logan Heights crashThe vehicle used in the hit-and-run is described as a 1997 to 2004 white Ford F-150 truck with stock wheels. 10News spoke with family members about the crash Wednesday. Romero was a mother of five and grandmother of five. "Always really happy, an outgoing person," said Brianda Ramos.The family says they rushed to the hospital after learning Romero was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Basically left her right there," said Ramos.Family members say Romero had become famous in the area for selling tamales at parks and schools in Southcrest and Bay Terraces. Police say the truck had a tinted back window and a white California sticker. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for a gunman after a teenager was shot Friday night outside of a movie theater in Escondido.The shooting happened around 8:50 p.m. at the Regal Cinema on West Valley Parkway in Escondido.Police say the victim was shot in the calf and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.The shooting is believed to be related to fight among a group of teenagers in the strip mall.They are now reviewing surveillance video in their investigation of the incident. 513

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- New information from the Census Bureau shows that San Diego’s housing growth isn’t keeping up with our growth in population.Within the year spanning between July 1, 2016, and July 1, 2017, San Diego saw its population increase by nearly 13,000 people.According to the Census Bureau, though the population has increased, the number of new homes being built is actually slowing down.When you compare housing growth between 2000 and 2007 and housing growth between 2010 and 2017, San Diego County saw a major decrease in growth of new housing. San Diego was also ranked the 11th most populated city in the United States, according to the new data. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Nearly 300 goats are munching away at brush on and around Cuyamaca College.The college contracted with Environmental Land Management and its goats to help with fire mitigation.A preserve surrounds the 165-acre campus. The goats and ELM staff and machinery will clear about 50 acres of brush in six to eight weeks. The goats are estimated to do 65 percent of the clearing work.Julianna Barnes, the President of Cuyamaca College, says the goats are a way to be pro-active during the fire season.“Usually we bring out an all-human crew with heavy machinery,” Barnes said, “but it’s actually 20 percent the cost of bringing in an all-human crew. And it’s more environmentally sound.”The goats will eat 7- to 10-percent of their body weight. Also, goats do not re-seed plant life in their excrement, according to the college.“We have a lot of non-native plants, and they’re highly flammable,” Barnes said, “(The goats) love to eat, and they love these non- native plants.” 994

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Donald Trump said San Diego "needs a wall" while he toured eight border wall prototypes along the county's southern border Tuesday.During his visit, the president stopped intermittently during his inspection of the structures to discuss the wall and, at times, slam the state over its immigration policies."For the people that say no wall, if you didn't have walls over here you wouldn't even have a country," Trump said at the prototypes. "And, by the way, the state of California is begging us to build walls in certain areas. They don't tell you that."Trump went on to view more of the prototypes, before stopping once again to discuss the new structures."A part of San Diego needs a wall, they want a wall very desperately," Trump said. "They're willing to do anything to get it. I said 'nope, approve the whole wall, California.'"Trump said he favors a wall with see-through capabilities with steel and concrete. He added that Border Patrol had "done a fantastic job" in constructing the prototypes.The president was asked about comments from California Governor Jerry Brown, who has slammed Trump's border wall and called for other projects to receive funding."I think Gov. Brown has done a very poor job of running California ... The place is totally out of control," Trump criticized.Trump went on to slam Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who reportedly urged undocumented immigrants in the area to take precautions ahead of a series of immigration raids.Before heading back to MCAS Miramar to speak with service members, Trump stopped to deliver his final remarks on his tour and the wall."The border wall is truly our first line of defense. It'll save thousands and thousands of lives. Save taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars by reducing crime, drug flow, welfare fraud, and burdens on schools and hospitals," the president said.Trump called on Congress to fund the border wall but did not say whether he would veto a measure that doesn't include a punishment for so-called "sanctuary states." 2067
