SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The San Diego Air & Space Museum held a celebration exactly fifty years to the day of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins’ historic mission to the Moon a half century ago, the Museum announced today.Apollo 11 was the first time a human set foot on the Moon, one of mankind’s most incredible achievements. The San Diego Air & Space Museum celebrated their accomplishments with a special event held during their after hours on Saturday. The public was invited to explore the exhibits, hear from a specially organized panel and watched the launch the San Diego premier of “The Day We Walked on the Moon,” a special documentary from the Smithsonian Channel commemorating the Apollo 11 Moon landing.At the event, people were reminiscing on where they were during the historic moment 50 years ago. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Some Mission Beach residents say they are fed up after their streets are piling up with trash. They say designated parking spots for e-scooters have remained uncleaned for months, causing concern for flooding. It's all fun and games until it's not. "When the rainy season does happen, you will see Mission Beach flooding," Mission Beach resident and Town Council VP, Greg Knight said. First, the problem was unsupervised parking. E-scooters were piling up all over the neighborhood. Now, they are giving Mission Beach residents a new headache - their corralled parking spots."This [Corral] gets filled a lot of times with leaves, sand, debris," Knight said. "We have a lot of party rentals that go on here, which means excess trash."All of the debris should be swept up twice a week on Mission Boulevard. But since the City of San Diego put in the e-scooter parking corrals in July, Knight says these areas have remained untouched. "When this washes down, that's the stuff that goes into the storm drain and will actually block it up," Knight said. Knight saw a City street sweeper driving around the corrals, even after he says the Mayor's office promised street sweeping would not be affected. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- On a clear, sunny day in February, the sound of a bell announces the arrival of Naval Commander John C. Witte as he boards the USS Annapolis. He's in charge of the roughly 160 sailors who serve aboard the submarine, one of several boats stationed at Naval Base Point Loma."Submarining takes a lot of mental toughness and these guys will work long hours but they'll do what it takes to get the mission done," Witte told 10News. As you can imagine space is limited on board, nearly every inch is utilized, especially in the command area. But that's not to say the crew doesn't ever use their eyes. The periscope is still something the submarine crew utilizes regularly. "We may want to look at what other ships are doing we may want to try to observe other navy's activity stuff like that," Witte said. Everyone on board has a specialized skill, but because of the isolation that comes with being underwater for long periods of time, everyone has to take on multiple roles. When it's time to eat, the culinary specialists use the limited supply of ingredients to make every meal and also bake things like fresh bread and cookies pretty often. "We don't carry a lot of pre-made bread because it takes up too much room so a lot of our bread is made fresh a lot of our cookies are made fresh so its a pretty good," Witte explained.
