SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Six new flu deaths have been reported this week in San Diego County as the number of emergency room visits due to the flu remain the same, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.So far this flu season, 308 people have died from the flu throughout the county. Those who have died range in age from one to 101 years old and almost all had underlying medical conditions.Also last week, 682 lab-confirmed cases of the flu were reported compared to 620 the week before.“The number of influenza cases being reported is still elevated, a sign that the flu is still here and making people sick,” said Wilma Wooten M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “People should continue getting vaccinated.”So far this flu season, more than 19,000 lab-confirmed cases of the flu have been reported, compared to nearly 5,000 last season. 874

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wherever you may go this Halloween, it's unlikely you'll see cuter Halloween costumes than those adorning newborns at the Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health.Babies in the center's neonatal intensive care unit were dressed for the holiday as a way to spread smiles and give parents a memorable Halloween with their newborns.Giovanni Desantiago (hedgehog), Anthony Julian Caballero (Batman), Aniyah & Aaliyah Ortiz (monkeys), Max Waterhouse (C3PO), and Alizae D’Gracia (cat) were among those dressed up as part of the celebration.The NICU at Jacobs Medical Center provides care for newborns born prematurely, at times, some weighing less than a pound or with health issues that require hospitalization. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video captured a man smashing display cases inside a Mission Valley mall jewelry store Wednesday evening.The cell phone video given to 10News shows a suspect using whatever he can find to smash a jewelry case inside Zales.The incident started around 2:15 p.m. when a witness saw the man wearing a Padres jersey walking around suspiciously.The witness first saw the suspect take a hat from a kiosk before walking into Champs Sports, taking off his jersey and stealing a Nike jacket.The man then began to untie a pair of shoes on a mannequin in an attempt to steal them. Once he saw people watching him, the suspect left the shoes and ran to the jewelry store.He grabbed a pipe and tried to break open a jewelry case. After the unsuccessful attempt, he then grabbed a mirror and tried to do the same thing.Unsuccessful again, the suspect grabbed a chair and continued to smash the cases until he was able to stuff some necklaces into his pocket.By the time the man broke the display cases, police had arrived on scene, taking the suspect out in handcuffs. 1081
