CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - North San Diego County air travelers will soon have a new flight option from McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad.California Pacific Airlines said Friday it would start taking passengers to Pacific Southwest destinations before the end of summer.Company president and CEO Paul Hook says the airline will succeed where others have failed because it will be able to offer something they could not: reliability.“What we’re looking at here an Embraer 145 regional jet,” said Hook as he looked at the 50-seat jet on the tarmac.Potential investors and ‘Airplane’ actor Robert Hays were on board a flight that left Friday for Sacramento. Hays represented a blood donor charity which partners with regional airlines to deliver rare blood types quickly.“All the doors are set up to open really easily - so, when I go up and announce I’ll be your captain today, I want to see how fast the plane empties,” Hays said. The airline will offer service to cities including San Jose, Phoenix and Las Vegas. 1023

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A company in Carlsbad is doing its part to help the animals injured by wildfires in Australia.Oska Wellness has donated ten of its patented Oska Pulse devices to animal hospitals in New South Wales."I have a cat and a dog, my daughter has a snake, we're animal lovers," says Dr. Jeff Marksberry. "So anything you can do personally or as an organization, we're going to do."The device uses electromagnetic pulses to help realign the ionic charges within damaged cells. "All of your cells in your body have a plus/minus. They work with electronic properties," says Dr. Marksberry. "When someone's injured, when they have pain, when there's inflammation, those things all change, those properties..."We use the pulsed electromagnetic field to realign those charges to heal the cells."The Oska Pulse has been used on humans since 2015, but Dr. Marksberry says they know for a fact that it works on koalas as well."There was a koala during the 2015 wildfires that made the news for not responding to any pain treatments," he explains. "Our founder donated one of the prototypes to the vets there. The koala had a great response. The koala's name was Oska, so we actually adopted that as our name for the US device."Dr. Marksberry says the ten devices they sent can help treat dozens of patients, since multiple animals can use it at once, and treatment only takes a few hours each day."As long as it's next to the animal, they can still get pain relief from the device and go ahead and get normal rehabilitation treatments they've been getting," he says. For more information about the Oska Pulse or Oska Wellness, visit www.oskawellness.com. 1670
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Even though his truck does not have sirens and his uniform does not offer added fire protection, Anthony Gaskins is considered a hero in the Hallsley neighborhood in Chesterfield County, Virginia.Gaskins is a driver for UPS and during the pandemic, his daily deliveries have been life-saving, both literally and figuratively, to the Midlothian neighbors. "Through COVID, Anthony has continued working, delivering packages at our doors, record numbers of them, over 180 times to date," Hallsley neighbor Patty Friedman wrote in an email. "I wanted to thank him personally for how much he helped me feel welcome when I moved in during a pandemic. It was terribly lonely and he was always the highlight of my day. Mentioning this to a few people and the response I got was all I needed to know I was not alone." 844
Canada is the latest country to approve a COVID-19 vaccine candidate made by Pfizer and BioNTech, according to ABC News and the Washington Post.On Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the vaccine would arrive in Canada next week and that doses would be distributed at that time. The FDA is expected to meet tomorrow to discuss granting Emergency Use Authorization to the Pfizer vaccine. Approval is expected, and Americans may begin receiving doses as soon as next week. The drug has already been administered to some patients in the United Kingdom, who approved the vaccine for emergency use last week. On Wednesday, officials announced that two people with extensive histories with allergies had suffered "adverse effects" from the injections, but both patients are expected to be OK. Officials in the U.K. are now advising patients with similar histories of extreme allergic reactions to not get vaccinated for the time being.Initial efficacy studies showed the Pfizer vaccine to be 95% effective in preventing COVID-19, without serious side effects.A vaccine candidate made by Moderna is also on the precipice of receiving widespread approval from several major western countries. 1206
