SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews removed a body from Chollas Lake Monday, fire officials said. The man, identified only as Hispanic and in his mid- to late 20s, was found about noon at the lake at 5850 College Grove Drive in the Oak Park neighborhood. Brianna Yasel and her friends were at the lake and realized something was wrong."I couldn't tell what it was; it looked like a rock to me. Once they pulled it out and flipped it over, my friend was able to see the hand at first and it did look like he was under the water for a while. He just didn't look too good," said Yasel."The body was discovered almost in the center of the lake; a passerby said it looked somewhat suspicious. He noticed it moved by an rock cropping," said San Diego Police Lt. Ernesto Servin.San Diego Police are investigating to determine the cause of death and the man’s identity, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The Medical Examiner was also called to the scene.Chollas Lake, which served as a reservoir from 1901 to 1966, is open during daylight hours for recreation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have identified the man shot and killed near a downtown parking garage in early December as 37-year-old Samuel Burkhalter.The shooting happened on the 1400 block of G Street around 10 p.m. on December 1.Police say they received several calls reporting gunshots in the area. After arriving, officers found Burkhalter at the entrance to a parking garage in the area. Officers provided first aid until relieved by San Diego Fire-Rescue, but say Burkhalter died at the scene.Investigators say a light-skinned man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a black hat was seen running through the garage after the shooting. The suspect was later identified as Tyler Cosby, 23. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Fire-Rescue crews rescued a paraglider who crashed into a dangerous Torrey Pines bluff Friday.SDFD crews arrived at the site of the crash at around 1 p.m. Sky10 footage showed the person clinging to the cliff, wrapped in the wreckage of a broken glider, just over a section of Blacks Beach.Lt. Rich Stropky says the man was in training to become a paragliding pilot. He apparently attempted to make a left hand turn away from the bluff but lost control near Saddle Back ridge, said Stropky.RELATED: Cliff, air rescue numbers on rise in San Diego CountyCrews were able to airlift the person from the cliffside just after 2 p.m. He was immediately brought to a nearby hospital for his injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego lawmakers responded Friday to President Donald Trump’s comments about border wall construction and funding as the government shutdown stretched into day 13. Trump declared he could keep parts of the government closed for "months or even years" as he and Democratic leaders failed in a second closed-door meeting to resolve his demand for billions of dollars for a border wall with Mexico. “We did a lot of wall in San Diego,” Trump said at a White House news conference. “They wanted it very badly.” Trump cited concerns about the U.S.-Mexico border, including entry by terrorists, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. San Diego County’s congressional representatives emailed comments to 10News regarding the president’s statements. “San Diegans view our proximity to Mexico as an opportunity, not a threat, and we recently celebrated building a bridge between our two countries – not a wall – a bridge with adequate customs staffing so people can travel back and forth easily, and legally,” wrote Rep. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released a sketch of an attempted homicide suspect they say tried to rob a man at Emerald Hills Park last month.On July 11 at about 2 p.m., a 23-year-old man was at Emerald Hills Park when an unknown suspect tried to grab his cell phone from a park table. A fight started between the man and suspect before the suspect displayed a box cutter and told the man, "I am going to kill you," police said.The suspect stabbed the man in the left arm with the box cutter and strangled the man, before fleeing the scene. The suspect was last seen walking into a canyon near KeltonRoad and State Route 94.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for the cut to his left arm requiring 18 staples.The suspect was described as a Black male, about 40 years old, standing about 6-feet tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has a thin mustache and goatee, and had "Jaundice" or yellowing to the white portion of his eyes, police said.
