INDIANAPOLIS -- More than a dozen protesters were arrested Monday afternoon after they blocked a busy downtown Indianapolis street during rush hour. The group was demonstrating as part of the "Poor People's Campaign" and started at Monument Circle before making their way to the an area outside of the Statehouse. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the scene after reports of about 50 people blocking the road. Responding officers tried to talk to the protesters and gave them multiple warnings that if they did not leave the street they would be arrested. Police say they spoke to the protesters individually and tried to get them to move, but after being left with no alternative they took five women and nine men into custody. All 14 were arrested for obstruction of traffic. The group claims they were protesting against poverty, racism and other important issues.  925

Interim security clearances for White House aides, including Jared Kushner, were downgraded last week after chief of staff John Kelly stipulated new changes to how officials access the nation's secrets, according to sources familiar with the matter.Aides who previously operated on "top secret" interim clearances saw their access changed to "secret," a classification for less sensitive material. In a February 16 memo, Kelly stated that White House officials who have been operating on interim clearances since last June would have their temporary clearances discontinued. That included Kushner, the President's son-in-law and senior adviser. Asked on Friday whether he would grant Kushner an exemption from the new mandate, Trump said it would be Kelly's decision. The White House has refused to detail the status of Kushner's clearance.Kushner is accepting the decision about his security clearance and "will not ask for special permission" from the President, one person familiar with situation says.Politico first reported the security clearance downgrade."He is a valued member of the team and will continue to do the important work he has been doing since he started in the administration," press secretary Sarah Sanders said on Tuesday. After the memo's release, White House officials worked to identify a way for Kushner to continue working on his portfolio of issues -- including on the Middle East and China -- that would avoid forcing Trump to personally intervene.Officials have expressed worry that Trump's personal involvement could create problems within the West Wing and with Kelly.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. INTERACTIVE MAP: See where the Hill Fire is burning in Ventura County(KGTV) — Fire crews battled back flames from the Hill Fire burning near Thousand Oaks overnight Friday. The blaze has burned more than 4,500 acres and contained to 70 percent as of Sunday morning. On Friday, crews had estimated the fire to have burned about 6,100 acres. While low humidity and high winds have made fighting the nearby Woolsey Fire difficult, crews Friday encountered minimal active fire activity with the Hill Fire, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. At least one firefighter has been injured fighting the fire, and several hundred structures have been threatened. Surprisingly, no structures have reportedly been destroyed. The fire is burning in a south-southwest direction, VCFD said. About 800 personnel have been assigned to the Hill Fire. 883

It’s a moment of pain and perseverance captured through the lens of a camera.“My son’s head was out, and he was losing oxygen. He was slipping away,” mother of two, Loriell Forte, said.Forte had her son at home last year. The delivery was an intense experience. “They had to put an oxygen mask on me, so that way he wouldn’t stop breathing," she recalled.Photographer Elaine Baca was behind the scenes for the entire process, photographing the experience for the family.“She caught that moment of near death, but life at the same time. It’s a delicate balance,” said Forte. The family planned to frame some of the birth photos for their home, but one photo ended up on Forte's Facebook wall instead and it was posted by someone else.“I was upset at first. I was like, ‘How could they take my picture like that?’”The photo, showing Forte and her husband while she is in labor, was shared on countless Facebook accounts with a false caption. Each post manipulated the story with slightly different details."One page had more than 200,000 shares on that one image saying that, ‘My wife is suffering from coronavirus. The doctors say my wife is going to die and the baby is going to have Covid too, please pray and like and share,’” said Baca. Some posts claimed Forte’s baby had died. Others posed as her husband saying he’d lost his wife and now their baby is sick.“It blew my mind that it went from an innocent moment, a powerful moment depicting birth, to a representation of COVID,” said Forte. But what is the truth? The photo was taken a year before the pandemic started in January 2019, and Forte’s son is now almost 2 years old.“It has been used in ways of trying to get people to give money or trying to get people to look at something this certain way, and so at this point, if I could stop it, I would, because I know it’s not the truth,” said Forte.A true birth story is all Baca wanted. She documented Forte’s experience for a portrait series of African-American women giving birth because she says they are under-represented in birth stories. “Black women don’t see themselves often, so we were trying to show the beauty and the power of birth for these families," Baca said. "So, when I see that it’s not being used for that, it’s for fear, and for people to have a shocked reaction, shares and likes, it’s just really frustrating because it goes against everything we were trying to do.”Experts warn misinformers will post photos you see on your timeline every day to get clout online and to spread false information. Here’s how it works: once you like or share a photo, that account and that post will get views from other users. This can help the account get more followers or viewers in the future. The misinformer now has a wider audience to spread other false photos or articles. If you don’t check the source of what you share, you could be helping spread misinformation with the click of a button.“I was just reporting and reporting as fast as I could and as they would get taken down. I moved onto the next, but there were 10-15 of them, and each of them had more than 1 million followers,” said Baca.Even after trying to have the photos taken down, Forte and her husband’s faces are still being shared incorrectly on the internet today.“It definitely stripped the power I thought I had in that moment,” said Forte. “It’s like, ‘Ok I might have power in giving life, but when it comes to a keyboard or Instagram, I’m powerless."Both women agree the power lies with the public. A simple second to check the source of an image before you hit “share” could stop one more fake story in its digital tracks. 3625

It seems Americans are returning to air travel, despite another spike in coronavirus cases in the United States. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says it screened more than 1 million passengers Sunday, the highest number of travelers screened at the agency's checkpoints since March 17, around the time the pandemic hit the U.S.The weekly volume of screenings was also the highest it’s been since the onslaught of the coronavirus, with about 6.1 million passengers screened nationwide last week. The number of fliers remains well below pre-pandemic levels, but TSA says the 1 million single-day passenger volume is a noteworthy development that follows significant TSA checkpoint modifications in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The agency says it has been deploying acrylic barriers and technologies that reduce or eliminate physical contact between passengers and TSA officers.New credential authentication devices are also being installed at various airport checkpoints, enabling passengers to insert their ID directly into a card reader, eliminating the need for a TSA screening officer to touch the ID.Additionally, many checkpoints now feature computed tomography (CT) scanners, allowing TSA officers to manipulate an image on screen to get a better view of a bag’s contents.“This technology often enables officers to clear items without having to open a carry-on bag,” TSA said. “The new CT scanner further reduces the need for a passenger to remove contents of their bag during the screening process.”TSA has established a “Stay Healthy. Stay Secure.” campaign that it says is designed to prepare travelers for the new procedures they can expect at checkpointsClick here to learn more about how TSA is addressing the coronavirus. As of Monday morning, more than 219,600 people have died from COVID-19 in the U.S. and over 8 million have contracted the coronavirus across the nation, according to an ongoing tally by Johns Hopkins University. 1972
