(KGTV) — LEGOLAND California helped make the season bright for one lucky 11-year-old who in return, helped usher in the holidays at the park.Gideon Robinson, an 11-year-old cancer survivor from Lake Elsinore, and his family helped the park light its 30-foot tall LEGO Christmas tree in the park's Fun Town. After pulling the switch, Robinson helped illuminate the tree's 11,000+ twinkling lights, which is set atop more than 400 LEGO decorations and 245,000 green DUPLO bricks.Robinson was given a star ornament and special invitation to the park's LEGO Movie World expansion set to open next year. He and his family were also treated to a stay at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel.Robinson is a two-time cancer survivor who was first diagnosed with acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a week after his fifth birthday and again in 2019 after a short remission before receiving news that he had beaten leukemia."During these unprecedented times when so many are faced with challenges, it’s positive stories such as Gideon’s that provide inspiration to all of us," said LEGOLAND California Resort President Kurt Stocks. (KGTV) - More than two and a half years after Team 10 first reported about a North County property management company accused of stealing money from clients, the victims are finally getting their money back.Kelley Zaun owned Carousel Properties, a Carlsbad property management company. Victims first told Team 10 in 2016, they hired her to pay fees associated with their rentals. They said she did not pay those fees. She was accused of taking roughly 0,000 from victims, according to investigators.In 2018, Zaun faced 29 felonies for embezzlement, according to Deputy District Attorney Anna Winn. Zaun entered into a plea deal and agreed to a year in custody. With the help of the DA’s office, Zaun’s former clients were able to get their money back through the Department of Real Estate’s Consumer Recovery Account. RELATED: Team 10: Police investigating Carlsbad companyStephen Lerner, the Assistant Commissioner for Legal Affairs for the department, said so far, 23 victims have been reimbursed through the account. Other victims’ payments are still processing. They have been able to reimburse 2,084.68 thus far.The Consumer Recover Account is an option for fraud victims when trying to recoup money from the person who took it from them. In order to utilize the fund, Lerner said there must be a criminal or civil court order for the defendant to pay back money he or she took. If victims cannot get refunded from the person who stole it, they can apply through the Department of Real Estate (DRE).Winn said she volunteered to be the victims’ liaison with the DRE, as the process for reimbursement is lengthy and many of the victims were elderly. One of Zaun’s victims told Team 10 he is “extremely grateful” for the DA’s office work on this case. (KGTV) - A new law, passed unanimously by the Carlsbad City Council, will allow any place with a license to serve food and alcohol to also host live entertainment.Previously, only places that served primarily food were allowed to have live music or shows."What we’re looking at is more of the solo artist, the pianist, more of the acoustic music that we’re seeing a trend in the rise all over," says City Village Manager Claudia Huerta.The city hadn't updated its live entertainment rules since 2017. Huerta says business owners had requested the change to keep pace with other similar coastal cities. Now, they can apply for a permit to have live entertainment, including music, DJs or other performers like hypnotists and comedians."The village is a special place," says Zac Markham, who owns Humble Olive Oils on State Street. "I really think this will raise bar of the village and make it a place to be for Carlsbad and all of our county."Not everyone is excited about the change. Some neighbors worry that more music will lead to more people and more problems, especially late at night."The whole purpose of that is to get more business, right? I understand, that’s a valid business reason," says Carlsbad Barrio resident Simon Angel. "But is it appropriate for the communities that are going to be impacted by it? We already have people walking through at night. Sometimes they stop and relieve themselves or they get sick in people's front yards."Huerta says the city is working to make sure that doesn't happen. Every application for an entertainment permit will be reviewed by the police. And the City Council will revisit the program after 6 months to make sure it hasn't created any problems.The new ordinance goes into effect in April. However, Huerta says the Village still has to adapt its master plan before the change can take effect. That may not happen until the fall. 1911
