SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld's new dive coaster has shed its "Mako" moniker and will now nod to another of the park's coolest animals.SeaWorld announced Tuesday its dive coaster will be called "Emperor," a nod to Emperor penguins. The name is "a tribute to the Emperor penguins’ journey from chilly, frosted cliffs to their deep dive into the depths of the ocean," the park says.The ride will still be modeled after SeaWorld's other "Mako" coasters, taking riders more than 150 feet high, before sending them into a 143-foot face-down drop and through loops and turns at up to 60 miles per hour. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Schools in San Diego County are readying emergency plans in case the coronavirus prompts schools closures like the ones in Washington state.At least a dozen schools in the greater Seattle area were closed Monday after health officials confirmed at least six deaths linked to the virus in that state.The San Diego Unified School District said in addition to cleaning efforts by its custodial staff, it was lining up outside contractors who could “provide large-scale deep-cleaning of classrooms or entire schools should it become necessary.”The County Office of Education said it planned to distribute a template pandemic response plan to all 42 districts soon with guidance on everything from prevention to post-outbreak recovery.“We’re lucky we don’t have any cases of community spread in San Diego County, so we have some time,” said COE spokeswoman Music Watson. “We’re using that time to think through, if we need to close schools, what about e-learning? What about community kitchens?”The Office of Education is encouraging districts to consider a range of “distance learning” options, in the event of longer-term school closures. Those options include issuing photocopies of lesson plans, posting recorded lessons online, and conducting teacher “check-ins” and tutorials by phone or web conferencing.Several districts have sent letters home to parents in recent days encouraging discussions about hygiene and handwashing, including Sweetwater Union High School District and Chula Vista Elementary School District.“We get that people are a little scared and we want to make sure we do as much as we can,” said CVESD spokesman Anthony Millican.Millican said local district have experience responding to viral outbreaks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — She's just 5-years-old, but Faith Perkins is now a published author.Faith and her mother Neka wrote the book 'Faith and Trinity the Unicorn', inspired by the loss of Trinity, Faith's older sister."My husband and I lost Trinity prematurely at 24 weeks in May 2012, of course, that was a devastation, it hurt us, but our faith prompted us to try again, and that's when Faith was born," said Neka. In the book, Faith travels the world with her sister Trinity, who is a unicorn. Faith explains how she and her mother wrote the book together, "What we would do is me and her would sit down, and she would tell me what it would be like if we were playing with each other and whatever I would tell her she would write down on a piece of paper."Neka and Faith hope the book will help others coping with loss. "I hope to inspire so many other individuals to talk about it, it's not easy, it's painful," said Neka.But Neka says writing the book with Faith has helped her heal and find some closure. "I can only imagine what life would have been like with her here, so this allows us to keep the hope alive," said Neka.For Faith, getting the book published is only the beginning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say there may be more victims of a sexual assault suspect arrested last month.Juan Carlos Cordero, 35, was arrested on March 21 for multiple sexual assaults, police say. Based on the evidence though, police are looking other possible victims or persons with information.The crimes may have occurred between early 2015 and March 2019.Cordero is currently in custody and being held on million bail.He's described as a Hispanic male, about 6-feet tall, weighing 185 pounds, with neck length brown hair and unshaven. He also may have identified himself as "JC."Police said Cordero would approach intoxicated women at bars and nightclubs and convince them to go back to his apartment or hotel, where he sexually assaulted them. SDPD added he may have met women through online dating apps, where "he meets us with them, has them consume alcohol and/or drugs, and sexually assaults them."
