British academic Matthew Hedges, who was sentenced to life in prison for spying in the United Arab Emirates, has been pardoned with immediate effect.Hedges, 31, was sentenced on Thursday after a five-minute hearing. A family spokeswoman said Hedges was forced to sign a confession in Arabic, a language Hedges does not read nor speak.Hedges is a specialist in Middle Eastern studies at the University of Durham. He was arrested on May 5 at Dubai airport, following a research trip. BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) -- After more than two decades in business, Giant Pizza King in Bonita is closing its doors. For the last 23 years, the Stephan family has operated the restaurant at the location. Several months ago, they learned their landlord wouldn’t renew their lease, replacing the pizza shop with a Starbucks. “I cannot believe it anyways; my last day is just so hard because I’m here every day, seven days a week,” said Nisreen Stephan, whose customers call her Nancy. After she makes her last pizza, Nancy says she’ll take some much needed time off and always cherish the memories she made at the shop. Nancy says she isn’t sure if Giant Pizza King will reopen in another location. If she decides to reopen the restaurant, she says she’ll make sure to let everyone know. 792

BRANDON, Fla. -- A Florida woman says someone threw some type of acid on the side of her 2002 Ford Explorer that was parked outside a Kmart in Brandon. Glenda Banfield said she was in the store for about an hour when she came out to find the paint on her car bubbling. "My paint was down to the metal," she said, "I rubbed my hand down over it and it just came off in flakes."Banfield was parked in a disabled parking space in the front row towards the entrance of the store. "I wish I would have just stayed home," said Banfield.Banfield, who lives on disability, is on a fixed-income and took the car in for a repair estimate, "they said it would be at least ,500."  703
