Dogs are a man's best friend. But Sully the dog earned international fame for his loyalty last winter by standing by his former owner, President George H.W. Bush, until Bush's death last December.But now, Sully has a new friend.Rob Hunter served in the Navy for 25 years. But Hunter has found relief in an unexpected way."The first day they came in here I was having a really bad morning. I was really close to crying, actually," he said. "And the dogs all jumped on my bed, started licking my face. I don't know what it is about a dog licking your face but snapped right out of it."The dogs are a part of the Walter Reed Bethesda Facility Dog Program, and Sully is perhaps its best known participant."Just walking down the hall we get stopped regularly to want to pet Sully, to have a picture with Sully, to meet Sully," Samantha Murdock, Sully's handler, said.But for Hunter, it's not Sully's fame that impresses him. It's how Sully and the other dogs can make such a difference."I was at a point where I was ready to commit suicide and I had a couple friend that were in the Navy and saw it," Hunter said. "They saved my life that night and these dogs do that on a weekly basis."It's a weekly pick-me-up that can make a lifelong difference. 1570

DJ Kashief Hamilton says he was playing music on a cruise ship dock at St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands when he heard a loud scream. The DJ stopped the party.He says he saw people running, including friend Randolph Donovan, with whom he works as an entertainer for visitors to the island.The 34-year-old Donovan jumped about 10 feet down off the dock into the ocean. A young woman in a wheelchair was sinking."I got her out of her wheelchair," Donovan told CNN. Someone on the dock threw down a life preserver, he said.Then Hamilton, 33, says he jumped in to help his friend, who was holding up the young woman, kicking furiously to keep the two of them afloat. "I can't go no more," Donovan told Hamilton.Hamilton said the water was about 35 or 40 feet deep where they jumped in, making it more than deep enough for the woman weighted down by her wheelchair to sink.Together with onlookers atop the dock, Hamilton and Donovan pulled the young woman back up to safety.They never got her name, but they said one of her family members gave them a big hug."I'm glad the outcome was something positive," Hamilton said. "We would have lost someone who is both a family member and a passenger."They easily could have lost their own lives, too, if a gust of wind had buffeted the waves, moving the massive Carnival Fascination cruise ship parked at the dock. If the ship had shifted a few yards, the three could have been crushed against the dock, Hamilton said.A spokeswoman for Carnival Cruise Line declined to identify the passenger who was rescued, but told CNN, "The guest was seen by our medical team and did not sustain injuries. A complimentary replacement wheelchair has been provided for the duration of the cruise."Strangers now call them heroesHamilton and Donovan said the governor and a legislator applauded their rescue efforts.The two men said US Virgin Islands Gov. ELOY, Arizona — A 70-year-old Oklahoma man is behind bars after an Eloy, Arizona police officer found a dead body in his car during a traffic stop. Authorities say the officer stopped Rodney Puckett in the area of Toltec Road along Interstate 10 on Monday. While the officer was talking to Puckett, he noticed the body of a dead woman sitting in the passenger seat. Police say the woman was identified as Rodney’s wife, 74-year-old Linda Puckett. Rodney told investigators Linda died at a hotel in Texas during the couple’s road trip. He said he moved her body into the car and continued to their destination. The couple, who married in 2011, were divorcing. Linda was issued a protective order from her husband on Feb. 6 and it was continued Monday, records show. Linda filed for divorce on Feb. 8.In another connection, Rodney was reported missing in April, but the Silver Alert for him was canceled once it was found he had not been heard from because he was in a Kansas jail. The Silver Alert said he has bipolar disorder.Linda’s body was turned over to the Pinal County Medical Examiner to determine cause of death, police said. The Eloy Police Department is working with Texas authorities to determine if Linda's death was a result of homicide. Rodney was booked into Pinal County Jail for abandonment or concealment of a body. Creating vape juice, the liquid inside e-cigarettes, is a complicated process, that someone like George Cassels-Smith can talk for hours about. Cassels-Smith’s knowledge of e-juice and the electronic tobacco business stems from his family’s long history in traditional tobacco. In the early 1900s, his great grandfather ran a company around flavoring cigarettes. His father took the business over and eventually, it fell into his hands after his father passed. “I lost my father due to cigarettes,” said Cassels-Smith. “He was a lifetime smoker. He had three heart attacks and two strokes and cancer twice, and that’s why I entered into manufacturing e-juice.”The family business is now eLiquidTech, located outside Maryland. “I’d like to try and help people with their nicotine dependence with a safer alternative,” he said.When it comes to the safety of vaping, the Centers for Disease Control says almost 1,500 people around the country with a reported a history of vaping have been hospitalized with acute lung illnesses. More than two dozen people have died from it. “For the last 10 years, there have been relatively no health risk associated with it or very low,” said Cassels-Smith. “Now, all of a sudden, people are dropping like flies. What has been new that’s been introduced?”The CDC is still trying to figure that out. However, that question bothered George Cassels-Smith so much, he decided to test every product eLiquidTech makes. The test revealed, “that we were not introducing a biological problem to the agents that we compound.”Weeks of talking with other vaping manufacturers and industry insiders has left Cassels-Smith believing the cause of the outbreak may stem from black-market products or people introducing additional substances to legally manufactured vaping products. His strongest suggested culprit is THC. “I have a hypothesis that it is cannabis related,” Cassels-Smith said. “Those are oil-based products for delivering big aerosol, as opposed to PG glycerin-based, which is for making nicotine products.”Around 78 percent of the people who have come down with vaping related illness, or who have died, have reported using THC liquids in their e-cigarettes. However, the CDC has not definitively pointed to that being the cause of this outbreak. The CDC’s current statement on the cause of the rash of recent lung illnesses and deaths is, “At this time, FDA and CDC have not identified the cause or causes of the lung injuries in these cases, and the only commonality among all cases is that patients report the use of e-cigarette, or vaping, products.”“I would ask the CDC and the FDA to carefully look at the delineation into scrutinize what these elements are associated with,” said Cassels-Smith. “We need to do more effort to find out what is exactly doing this.” Answers would help eLiquidTech’s business, which typically it produces 80,000 to 100,000 kilos of vape juice. But this month, it is only projected to produce 10,000. Answers would also help George-Cassel Smith’s conscience. “With people dying, I need answers.
