Now, this is your chance to pursue the degree or training you’ve been dreaming about to help you and your own family succeed.”The million investment came from the Governor's Education Emergency Relief Fund, part of the Federal CARES Act.“The vast majority of good-paying jobs continue to require at least some education beyond high school,” Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Director Jeff Donofrio said in a release. “Futures for Frontliners gives those who helped save lives and kept our communities operating during the height of COVID an opportunity to increase their skills and income and helps us close the state’s skills gap. For Michigan’s economy to recover and grow, its critical we continue to provide expanded opportunities to all.”Whitmer said this is the first-of-its-kind program in the United States, and she hopes other states will follow suit. The program isn't just eligible for medical workers. It's also available to people who worked in manufacturing, nursing homes, grocery stores, sanitation, delivery, retail, and more. This story was first reported by WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan. 2636

DENVER -- The administration of a Denver charter school has been suspended after disturbing video of a playground fight went public. Now, Denver police are investigating the teacher who appears to encourage the girls to throw punches. The April 20 video shows a group of girls at Wyatt Academy in an argument that escalated quickly. The restorative justice officer in the video appears to be smiling and laughing and can be heard at one point in the video saying, "Is anyone, like, going to hit anyone or is this just going to be a…"To which, a child yelled, "people are going to start hitting," before the violence escalated.Community activists said the real story isn't the fight, but the fact that three little girls received Denver Police citations for public fighting, while the school took no action against the teacher for a month — until the video went public."This whole time this is escalating, he never calls for anybody," said H Soul Ashemu, with Our Voice Our Schools, which released the video to try to initiate action from the school or the Denver Public School District.Denver Public School released a statement Friday afternoon saying it is investigating and that they are "deeply troubled by the video." 1248

Democrat Dan McCready is withdrawing his concession in a North Carolina congressional race where investigators are probing allegations of election fraud.McCready got 905 fewer votes than Republican Mark Harris in the 9th District race. But the state elections board has refused to certify the results as it investigates potential misconduct with absentee ballots, making it the last undecided House contest in the country. The board could ultimately order another election.McCready had previously conceded the race to Harris, but withdrew that concession Thursday."I didn't serve overseas in the Marines to come home to NC and watch a criminal, bankrolled by my opponent, take away people's very right to vote," McCready tweeted. "Today I withdraw my concession and call on Mark Harris to end his silence and tell us exactly what he knew, and when."His reversal comes as the state elections board, as well as local and state prosecutors, investigate whether Leslie McCrae Dowless, a veteran operative in Bladen County who was hired by a consulting firm the Harris campaign paid 0,000, altered absentee ballots or collected them from voters but never turned them in.Dowless earned more than ,000 working on six campaigns dating back to 2010, and in most of those races, Dowless' candidates received a disproportionately higher percentage of absentee votes in Bladen County.Dowless has not returned CNN's requests for comment. He has denied any wrongdoing to The Charlotte Observer.Earlier Thursday, North Carolina Republican Party executive director Dallas Woodhouse told CNN he would support a new election if the elections board proves allegations of fraud are true and impacted the outcome of the race."We are not ready to call for a new election yet," Woodhouse said. "I think we have to let the board of elections come show their hand if they can show that this conceivably could have flipped the race in that neighborhood, we will absolutely support a new election."The-CNN-Wire 1997
