SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A coalition of groups protesting how law enforcement officers use force says it plans to launch a recall effort against San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan in 2019."You're going to see us all over this county," said Oletha Wade-Matthews. "We're not going anywhere until we see justice, or get you out of office."Around one dozen people gathered Downtown Tuesday to speak at a San Diego City Council meeting, then hold a press conference. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old has been arrested after being shot by a store clerk he was trying to rob, San Diego Police say.According to police, Hector Lopez-Gastelum entered the La Michoacana store on the 700 block of Vesta Street around 10:40 a.m. on October 18 demanding cash. Police say Lopez-Gastelum was armed with a handgun.After the clerk handed over the cash, the suspect reportedly demanded that a second register be opened.“While Lopez-Gastelum was still in the store, the clerk shot him twice in the torso with his own handgun, which is legally owned,” police said.The clerk then retrieved Lopez-Gastelum’s handgun and called 911. The suspect was taken to a hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - UCSD and Scripps Institution of Oceanography alumna Megan McArthur will head to space as the pilot for the SpaceX Crew-2 mission in early 2021, NASA announced this week.The Crew-2 flight will be the second SpaceX Crew Dragon flight to the International Space Station as part of NASA's commercial crew program.McArthur, who received her doctorate in oceanography from Scripps in 2002, traveled to space aboard the space shuttle Atlantis in 2009. She and her crew were part of a 12-day mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. McArthur operated the shuttle's robotic arm that grabbed and released the telescope, making her the last person to "touch" the telescope. She was born in Honolulu but considers California her home state. She holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from UCLA.The SpaceX Crew-2 flight will be her first trip to the International Space Station.Joining McArthur is NASA astronaut Shane Kimbrough as mission commander with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and European Space Agency astronaut Thomas Pesquet as mission specialists.McArthur is one of two Scripps Oceanography alumni who are astronauts.
