Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has pulled out of a job as a correspondent for NBC at the Winter Games in South Korea.News broke earlier Sunday that Rippon, one of the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete at the Olympics, was being hired to work on TV, digital and social media for NBC for the remainder of the Games in Pyeongchang.NBC tweeted out the news Sunday morning, welcoming the 28-year-old bronze medalist to its team.But Rippon said hours later that although he was "so flattered" by NBC's offer, he decided against the move because it would mean leaving his U.S. teammates and the Olympic Village."It's so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that meant so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events," he said on NBCSN.NBC's article online about Rippon becoming one of its correspondents now redirects readers to his Olympic profile page.Rippon later suggested he only learned about the network's plans to hire him from social media."I actually found everything out about the offer via twitter HAHA," he tweeted. Pence later signed an amendment that prevented the law from discriminating against LGBTQ customers.Pence attended the Games in Pyeongchang and tweeted at Rippon saying that "we are FOR YOU. Don't let fake news distract you. (KGTV) -- The Oceanside Police Department told residents not to panic after the department received several calls about a strong smell.According to authorities, the smell is outgassing from the ocean and is non-toxic.Ocean outgassing happens when the ocean releases gasses that were trapped or dissolved.A similar incident was reported in La Jolla earlier this year. At this time, it's unclear what is causing the outgassing.  457

(KGTV) -- A man was hit and killed by a train while crossing the tracks in Oceanside Saturday night.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the man was hit around 11:20 p.m. on the 200 block of Surfrider Way. Deputies say the southbound train was traveling 55 miles per hour when the engineer spotted a man duck under the pedestrian crossing guard and try to run across the track. (KGTV) - An Oceanside man returned home to an unwelcome sight: a gay slur spray-painted across his garage door.Amid the tranquility of the Oceana South senior community, something ugly happened."I didn't expect this ... it hurts a lot," said Earls, choking back tears.For Earls, his emotions have been hard to control since he returned home on Pear Blossom Avenue past 7 p.m. Sunday. That's when he discovered a gay slur in black spray paint. Earls is openly gay."I just don't understand why people are so cruel. It just took me back to my childhood and the bullies on the playground," said Earls.The discovery was not a complete surprise. In the past few months, Earls says several neighbors have directed the same gay slur at him while walking near his home."One neighbor was muttering it quietly as she walks by. Another neighbor was the same person I saw near the garage when I discovered the slur," said Earls.Amid all the pain, something remarkable happened. After police arrived, a stranger came up to him."A man handed me an envelope, hugged me and said he loved me ... Inside was 0 and a note asking the money to be used for a reward. Shows there are good people. I have a lot of great neighbors," said Earls.Earls has told police about which neighbors have used the slurs before.
