SAN DIEGO (CNS) - At least one person was seriously injured this morning in a crash that may have involved an alcohol-impaired driver, the California Highway Patrol said.A car reportedly rolled over and caught fire about 3:44 a.m. on southbound state Route 15 near state Route 94, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log. Moments later, dispatchers were told the car appeared to have exploded.The fire-damaged car was then struck by another car, according to the incident log. A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, though details were scant.At least one person was left with serious injuries. The CHP described the incident as related to drunk driving, but it wasn't clear if anyone was taken into custody.  744

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Former San Diego City Councilman and Reform California Chairman Carl DeMaio announced his intent Monday to enter the race for the only Republican-held congressional seat in San Diego County. In a statement announcing his candidacy for the 50th Congressional District seat, DeMaio framed the decision to run as one of ``fight or flight.'' He also lambasted the state's Democratic dominance, arguing the state has shifted to the left in an untenable way. ``Too many Californians are fleeing our state because of the extreme socialist agenda being imposed on us by Democrat politicians, but I refuse to flee: I choose to stand and fight,'' DeMaio said. ``In California, voters have mostly only been given two choices: socialists or ineffective cowards.'' The 50th District seat is currently represented by Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, who was indicted last August, along with his wife, on five dozen criminal charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud and record falsification, for allegedly misusing campaign funds. Margaret Hunter has since pleaded guilty to conspiracy and is cooperating with prosecutors. Her husband maintains his innocence. Hunter won a sixth term last November, defeating Democratic candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar with 51.7% of the vote. The path to a seventh term appears more fraught for Hunter, whose trial is slated to begin Sept. 10 in federal court. With rumors of a possible resignation swirling, a cluster of Republican politicians have announced plans to run for the seat in the event Hunter foregoes a run or cannot legally run in 2020. El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells, Temecula Mayor Matt Rahn, former Escondido Mayor Sam Abed and former U.S. Navy SEAL Larry Wilske have all joined the race as Republicans. Former Rep. Darrell Issa, who declined a re-election run in the 49th District in 2018, could also join the race. Campa-Najjar, meanwhile, essentially never stopped campaigning after losing last year and is likely to have a war chest prepared for another attempt to flip the seat. ``More than half a dozen Republicans are now eyeing a challenge against me for CA-50,'' the Campa-Najjar campaign said in a statement last Friday. ``This is an internal battle that party elites will have to figure out amongst themselves.'' SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 15-year-old boy who was fatally shot last week in Barrio Logan.Patrol personnel responding to reports of gunfire in the area of Chicano Park shortly before 10 p.m. Friday found a large gathering of people standing in a parking lot and a motorist beginning to drive away in a silver sedan, according to police.Seeing the arriving officers, the group, including two people in the car, scattered, Lt. Andra Brown said.RELATED: 15-year-old fatally shot near Chicano ParkInside the vehicle, police found Brian Romo of San Diego, who had been shot in the upper body. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made in the case."While the investigation continues, very little is known about the circumstances leading up to the (victim's) death," Brown said. "Detectives are attempting to locate evidence and any possible witnesses. Investigators are aware of the large crowd present at the time of the incident and would like to speak to them. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Cleveland National Forest officials Saturday announced elevated fire restrictions until Jan. 1, 2021, and ordered the closure of Three Sisters & Cedar Creek Fall Trails after a heat advisory was issued by the National Weather Service.The trails will be closed until Sunday, officials said."These restrictions are put into effect to provide for emergency resource protection and public safety during hazardous fire conditions," a forest official said.The new restrictions include:No smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or within a developed recreation sites; No welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame;No target shooting, discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun;No building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or charcoal fire except within a developed recreation sites;No wood or charcoal fires are allowed except in identified developed campgrounds and developed picnic areas within designated fire rings.The Cleveland National Forest encompasses 460,000 acres and is the southernmost U.S. National Forest in California. It is divided into the Descanso, Palomar and Trabuco ranger districts and located in the counties of San Diego, Riverside, and Orange. 1255
