As a thank you to veterans and active duty of the U.S. armed forces, dozens of restaurants are offering free meals on Monday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. Check out our list below of different offers. Attorney General William Barr is expected to release special counsel Robert Mueller's redacted report on the Russia investigation to Congress and the public on Thursday morning, Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said.The plan to release the redacted report on Thursday means that all of Washington will be on edge this week anticipating the nearly 400-page report from the special counsel.The redacted report will provide more details into what was uncovered during the 22-month special counsel investigation into possible collusion between Donald Trump's team and Russia and possible obstruction of justice.Last month, Barr released a four-page summary of Mueller's principal conclusions, which stated that Mueller's investigation did not establish a criminal conspiracy between Trump's team and the Russian government, and Mueller did not reach a conclusion on obstruction of justice, though Barr wrote the investigation did not exonerate Trump.Instead, Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein made the decision there wasn't sufficient evidence to prosecute an obstruction case.Trump and his allies have claimed "total exoneration" in the wake of Barr's letter, but Democrats have said they don't trust Barr to accurately describe Mueller's investigation and have demanded to see the full report and Mueller's underlying evidence.Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have prepared to subpoena the Justice Department for the full report without redactions if they do not receive it this week.Barr told a Senate subcommittee last week that he's planning to color-code four types of redactions: grand jury information, classified information, material about ongoing information and material affecting peripheral third parties.But Barr's comments to the Senate panel that the Trump campaign was spied on have further eroded his standing with Democrats. Apple has another fix for its troubled laptop keyboards.Following ongoing complaints over broken and sticky keys, the company said Tuesday it is changing the material used in its butterfly keyboards — which are found on most MacBook Air and MacBook Pro computers — and expanding its repair program.Less than a year after the debut of its latest MacBook Pro model, the company announced a faster 8-core MacBook Pro with one very notable change: a slightly revamped version of its third-generation butterfly keyboard.Apple didn't disclose details over the change in material, but said it believes the update will significantly cut down on user complaints.The MacBook Pro line starts at ,799 for the 13-inch model and and ,399 for the 15-inch version.Unlike most laptop keyboards that use a "scissor mechanism," Apple's butterfly method expands like wings, opening itself up to dust and other debris. As the race for president in 2020 continues to heat up, data privacy experts say people should be taking a closer look at laws surrounding your data. "One of the toughest things is that for most of us, being online is no longer an optional thing; it's a mandatory thing," says Jennifer King, director of consumer privacy at The Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School. King tracks consumer privacy issues across the board. "In terms of the data that’s collected about you, it’s a pretty tough scenario," she says. "There is a lot of data collection that happens without our knowledge. Some people argue you consent to it, but because the consent is usually buried in a long terms and conditions and privacy policy, and so you consent, but most of us don’t read documents or be expected to practically.” King says companies like Facebook and Google have so much power over people's information because of a lack of laws and oversight. "We don’t have any laws frankly that restrict data collection or data use mostly across the board,” she explains. "There are particular areas where data collection is protected, so for instance in the health context, but that’s with a medical provider, so the world of Fit Bits and health tracking. [What] people do online, that’s not covered by privacy law.”She says people should care about data privacy, even if they have nothing to hide.“I hear that a lot, ‘I have nothing to hide. I'm not doing anything wrong,’ so it kind of assumes that privacy is about hiding things," she says. "I would argue it's about a lot more just controlling who you are and your ability to do things in the world.”When it comes to election season, King says she'd like to see more people with a better understand of the tech world in Washington. "Certainly, there is not enough. So, there is a real need for technological expertise in Congress,” she says. “That doesn’t necessarily mean elected officials. I would not expect most elected officials to come out of software companies. I would actually argue we’d be better off if we didn’t have our elected officials coming out of Silicon Valley, for example.”King hopes there will be more “reasonable protections” for consumers in the next few years. "There is only so much you can do as an individual, and that’s why it’s important to say that to pressure elected representatives to say that you want real data laws," she says. 2421
