The jury in the trial of former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort will return to court Friday morning for its second day of deliberations.After a full day Thursday, the jury hadn't yet reached a verdict on the 18 counts of tax evasion, bank fraud and hiding foreign bank accounts brought by special counsel Robert Mueller as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US election.The trial carries major implications for the future of the Mueller investigation. The investigation into the Uber crash that killed a Phoenix?homeless woman is still in its early stages.  But preliminary reports from Tempe police show the victim, Elaine Herzberg, 49, was jaywalking when the self-driving car hit her on Mill Avenue near Curry Road Sunday night.However, it raises an important question. Who is responsible if there is a law broken by one of these robotic vehicles?Phoenix attorney James Arrowood studies driverless car technology and the law. He also teaches a course on driverless cars to other attorneys in for The State Bar of AZ.He said, unfortunately, this was bound to happen because technology isn't foolproof.  "The good news out of this particular tragedy is we will have more information than we have ever had in an auto accident," Arrowood said. "We'll have sensors and cameras (data)."But when it comes to liability, Arrowood said Governor Doug Ducey's executive order requires driverless cars to follow the same rules of the road as any driver in Arizona, plus more."It specifies that if a company operates an autonomous vehicle, it has to comply with all of the traffic safety laws, in addition to extra parameters for autonomous vehicles," Arrowood said.That means "no driver" does not mean "no fine.""So if one of the (Uber) autonomous vehicles were to be speeding, then Uber would get a ticket for speeding," Arrowood said.Arrowood says where it gets cloudy is the civil liability. Under normal circumstances in a traffic crash, a plaintiff could go after a driver, the carmaker and maybe a company like the tire manufacturer if there was a blowout, for example."You had a limited universe," Arrowood said. "Now with autonomous vehicles, we don't know how deep that universe goes. For instance, could the municipality, could the government have some responsibility for permitting those cars on the road or for not having sensors in place?"Arrowood said although the Tempe crash is a tragedy, the public has to remember the technology isn't perfect or magical, and it's virtually impossible to avoid every collision. The MLB Players’ Association issued its counterproposal to league owners for getting the 2020 season underway as the start of the season was disrupted due to the spread of the coronavirus.The latest proposal is for a 70-game season with players receiving a full prorated salary for those games.With most professional sports leagues coming back this summer, MLB has yet to formalize a plan for resumption.MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Wednesday that a new set of proposals was forwarded to the players.The tone from Manfred on Wednesday differed from earlier in the week.“We left that meeting with a jointly developed framework that we agreed could form the basis of an agreement and subject to conversations with our respective constituents,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said. “I summarized that framework numerous times in the meeting and sent Tony a written summary today. Consistent with our conversations yesterday, I am encouraging the Clubs to move forward and I trust Tony is doing the same.”But the union seemed to suggest that it was too soon for optimism.“In my discussions with Rob in Arizona we explored a potential pro rata framework, but I made clear repeatedly in that meeting and after it that there were a number of significant issues with what he proposed, in particular the number of games,” MLBPA head Tony Clark said on Thursday. “It is unequivocally false to suggest that any tentative agreement or other agreement was reached in that meeting. In fact, in conversations within the last 24 hours, Rob invited a counterproposal for more games that he would take back to the owners. The Lee County Sheriff's Office says a Minnesota fugitive wanted for the murder of her husband is also responsible for a murder in Fort Myers Beach, Florida this week.Lee County Undersheriff Carmine Marceno said in a press conference Friday that they believe that Lois Reiss has since fled Southwest Florida to the Corpus Christi, Texas area.A national manhunt is under way for Reiss, who is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.Marceno says Reiss befriended 59-year-old Pamela Hutchinson and targeted her due to their similar appearance. Investigators say Reiss murdered Hutchinson in her?condo Monday, then took her ID and car and fled Southwest Florida in Hutchinson's white 2005 Acura TL with a Florida license plate Y37-TAA.Reiss is believed to have traveled through the Gulf coast to Corpus Cristi, Texas, but her current whereabouts are unknown.Reiss is wanted for Murder and Grand Theft.According to KLXT-TV in Rochester, Minnesota, Reiss is facing second degree murder charges there after shooting her husband to death back in March.According to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Reiss’ car was found abandoned in Florida earlier this week and she remains at large.Law enforcement also believe she stole over ,000 from her deceased husband's business. 1347
