UPLAND, Calif. (AP) — Investigators on Wednesday were trying to determine why a California woman allegedly fatally injured her infant daughter, dropped her young son off a second-story apartment building landing and then jumped herself.After being medically cleared, Tierra Ortega, 24, was booked for investigation of homicide, attempted homicide and child abuse resulting in death, said Capt. Marcelo Blanco of the Upland Police Department.Ortega's booking photo showed her face bruised and scraped with one eye swollen shut.Her 1?-year-old son remained hospitalized in stable condition with a broken foot and other minor injuries, Blanco said."We don't have a motive yet," Blanco said.The events unfolded late Tuesday morning in Upland, a small city at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in the inland region about an hour's drive east of Los Angeles.A neighbor called 911 to report that a child was screaming or crying and then saw the woman was holding the child on a second-story landing, according to police."The mother proceeded to release the toddler, who fell to the ground below. Upon officers arriving on scene, they noticed the child on the floor and the mother subsequently jumped from the second story landing head first," a police statement said.Police then checked the second-story apartment and found the woman's approximately 7-month-old daughter inside. She wasn't breathing.Her breathing was restored but she died at a hospital, Blanco said.The cause of her death will be determined but she had a possible skull fracture and internal injuries, he said.Video from KCAL-TV showed the woman sitting on grass outside the building with her hands handcuffed behind her. One child, strapped to a board, was loaded into a helicopter for the flight to the hospital.The children's distraught father was called home from work and police had to hold him back as he struggled to climb the stairs to the apartment.He spoke to police but "has no idea what led to this," Blanco said.The property manager said the family had moved into the unit about a year ago, KCAL-TV reported."They've always been very quiet," Kaeleigh Calderon said of the family. Twitter says it has permanently banned an account linked to former Trump adviser Steve Bannon after he advocated violence against infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI director Christopher Wray.According to CNN, Twitter has banned the account for Bannon's podcast, "War Room: Pandemic." In an episode that was published on mutliple online platforms Thursday, Bannon falsely claimed that President Donald Trump had won the 2020 election (the race is still too close to call) and added that Trump should fire both Wray and Fauci in his next term."I'd put the heads on pikes. Right. I'd put them at the two corners of the White House as a warning to federal bureaucrats," Bannon said, according to CNN. "You either get with the program or you are gone."In addition to the actions by Twitter, the video was also removed from Facebook and YouTube. Two moms wanted a safe place to get their young children involved in the protests calling for police reform and racial equality. So, they created a group called Tiny Activists ATL, where their children could speak out in their own way.“We are tiny people, demanding for a change,” said Addison Carroll, who isn’t even 10 years old yet.“We just want to make our voices heard,” said tiny activist Sawyer Tinguely.These pint-sized protestors have a big mission. “We want to see that everybody can be treated equal so that everyone can make a change,” said Carroll of speaking out about voting rights.From marching the streets to going to the polls, these future voters understand how the system works. Even though they’re not of age yet, they want to be involved.“What Black Lives Matter means to me is that black people can go outside and not feel bad because of the way they look,” said Carroll.“It means that all lives are equal. All people are the same,” said 7-year-old Tinguely.These kids want reform, especially after the death of George Floyd.“What I saw on that video was horrible,” said Carroll. When asked how watching the video of George Floyd’s arrest made her feel, Carroll stated, "Betrayed. Police officers are supposed to protect us, not harm us."“I think it’s pretty rude of that person who killed him to be mean to him just because he used counterfeit money,” said Tinguely.The group gathers each weekend, and their youthful activities, like drawing with chalk or making signs, comes with a discussion about real-life issues facing families today. “We’re planning to go to more protests. We’ve already been to like 10 so far. It’s actually pretty fun,” said Sawyer.“Our goal is to get our kids educated,” said mom Mary Williams. Williams and fellow Atlanta mother of three, Fran Carroll, started the group to make sure their children understood the unrest happening in their community.“This is what we stand for as a family,” said Fran Carroll. “This is the side we’re choosing to stand on in history.
