SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One person was killed and five people were injured after a crash near Scripps Ranch Sunday afternoon.The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pomerado Road and Avenue of Nations near Thurgood Marshall Middle School.Police said an 18-year-old driver and one passenger in a gray BMW were heading home from a basketball tournament when they swerved into oncoming traffic.They crashed into a white Chevy with four people inside, all between the ages of 70 and 90.The driver of the Chevy sedan, a 90-year-old woman, died from her injuries, police said.At least five ambulances were requested at the scene, according to authorities.The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but the driver told police he had mechanical trouble with his brakes. Alcohol and drugs are not considered a factor in the accident, police said.   917

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One person was shot Sunday outside of a College Area smoke shop, according to police.It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting, but San Diego Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man had been shot just before 5:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of El Cajon Blvd., outside of Aztec Smoke & Vape Shop.The victim was hit in the leg and chest and taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition was not clear.The area was closed by police for the investigation.10News is monitoring this breaking news. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Picture this: a woman needs to get from Chula Vista to her job in Sorrento Valley. She uses an app to call a smart shuttle, which takes her to a transit center she hops on a subway, and is whisked away.Or, she can drive on a toll lane and get across the county in 20 to 25 minutes."Think about the impossible, take risks. Keep going," said Hasan Ikhrata, the San Diego Association of Government's executive director. Ikhrata and his team unveiled its transit vision for the region Friday, with a target completion of 2050.The goal is to take the reliance off the car or make it more efficient for drivers with lanes that can change purposes based on traffic patterns. Still, it will come at a cost: 7 billion."It's expensive but I think it's worth the investment," Ikhrata said. "I think it's more expensive not to do it than to do it."Ikhrata says the plan will have to go to a public vote, and that it could involve a tax increase. But, he said federal and state governments would match every dollar spent locally with nearly two and a half of their own.Friday's presentation to the SANDAG board of directors was entirely informational, so there was no vote.The agency's staff will return in December with more details on projects and schedules. 1277

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Postal workers across San Diego will have an extra pickup this Saturday - they're working to end hunger in San Diego. The San Diego Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers are asking San Diegans to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger event by setting out bags of nonperishable food items next to their mailboxes. The letter carriers will pick up the donations on their route and deliver them to the Food Bank's warehouse. “After the holiday season, food donations drop dramatically, and this one-day food drive helps us restock our shelves ahead of the summer months when we see increased in demand from children on summer vacation who stop receiving free school meals and face hunger at home,” said San Diego Food Bank President & CEO, Jim Floros.Last year, 244,489 pounds of food was collected from homes in San Diego County alone for the San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter.The food was distributed through the Food Bank’s network of 400 nonprofit partner agenciesMost needed items:  1096

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police were involved in a chase that led to a standoff in Valencia Park Wednesday night.Video from Sky10 showed police chasing the suspect through residential streets. The chase began after police spotted the woman, who is wanted for burglaries and identity thefts throughout San Diego County, driving on the 805.The woman refused to stop and led both Harbor Police and San Diego Police on a slow-speed chase. Police then used spike strips that appeared to flatten one of the vehicle’s tires.The driver stopped a short distance after the spikes were used. Police could then be seen taking a police K9 out of one of the vehicles.The woman refused to get out of her car after police threatened to send in the K9 unit. The suspect sat in her car until officers approached the vehicle, broke the drivers side window, and pulled her out of the car.In video captured from the scene, the woman could then be seen being taken into custody.Live video captured by Sky10 shows the whole incident. Watch the video in the player below:  1066
