KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The call for the Missouri Legislature to go into a special session has received enough votes in the Senate and House. The House initially passed the measure Wednesday afternoon, followed by the Senate in the early evening. The session will last for 30 days. Per the state Constitution, after the legislative session there are only two ways for the legislature to return: the governor calls a special session, or the House and Senate have a majority vote to hold a special session. It will not be official until it’s filed with the Missouri Secretary of State. Lawmakers said there are two reasons for the special session. First is to give the special investigative committee more time to do their job and the second reason is to consider if articles of impeachment need to be started. House Speaker Todd Richardson said the decision to call a special session was not made lightly."Members signed this petition because they believe in a fair process that will not be rushed to conclusion by an artificial deadline. But make no mistake about it, today's actions ensure that there will be a conclusion to this process," said Richardson. The committee was formed after Gov. Eric Greitens was indicted on an invasion of privacy charge in February. Court documents allege Greitens took a nude photograph of a woman he was having an affair with in 2015 and then transmitted the photo so it could be seen on a computer. The committee has released two reports on allegations against Greiteins. The first report was released in April. It detailed testimony the woman at the heart of the invasion of privacy charge provided to the committee. The second report, released earlier this week, claims Greitens lied on a campaign disclosure form about a list of donors to his charity, The Mission Continues. Attorney General Josh Hawley said Greitens illegally obtained the donor list from the charity to use for political fundraising. The committee's report agrees with Hawley's allegations. House Minority Leader Rep. Gail McCann Beatty sent the following statement to Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City: 2189

Karen Mallard, a Virginia teacher who is also one of many Democrats challenging Rep. Scott Taylor for seat representing Virginia's second district, recently posted a video of her sawing an AR-15 apart. She said she did it to take a "a personal stand for gun safety," and is not backing down."We own the gun so we destroyed it and took it straight to the police department and dropped it off. I wanted there to be one less gun and to do something about gun violence," said Mallard. The video has been viewed more than a million times on her Facebook page. It's also drawing a lot of negative comments. Some people are saying destroying the rifle won't keep students safe. Some are saying what Mallard did was illegal."It is all to intimidate me and I will not be intimated. And I'm going to fight gun reform, for our children and for our community," said Mallard."Sawing off the end of a rifle barrel would probably not destroy it," said Virginia attorney Eric Lockie. "But if it shortened the barrel to under 16 inches, sawing off the end would make it immediately illegal and it`s a very bad idea.""I knew exactly what I was doing," Mallard said. "The gun was inoperable before I cut it. And we took it completely apart. And we didn't put all that on video because I wanted to get the message to the students that I was standing with them."Virginia Beach Police confirmed Thursday afternoon the gun was in their possession and waiting to be picked up by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. Jeffrey Tambor will not be returning for the next season of "Transparent," Amazon Studios tells CNN.Tambor, who was the series lead, had previously indicated he might not return to the critically acclaimed show, after harassment allegations were made against him.The actor has said the allegations against him were "simply and utterly untrue."In a statement released late Thursday, Tambor said he was "profoundly disappointed in Amazon's handling of these false accusations against me."He also accused Amazon of conducting an investigation that was "was deeply flawed and biased toward the toxic politicized atmosphere that afflicted our set."Tambor, 73, first faced allegations in November, spurring an investigation by Amazon. One of his accusers is his former assistant Van Barnes, who claimed Tambor "made lewd, sexually suggestive and unwelcome remarks to her on a number of occasions," according to Deadline, which first reported the allegations. In a statement posted to social media in November, "Transparent" actress Trace Lysette accused Tambor of making sexual advances and comments toward her.In a statement obtained by CNN on Thursday, "Transparent" creator Jill Soloway praised Lysette and Barnes, "whose courage in speaking out about their experience on 'Transparent' is an example of the leadership this moment in our culture requires.""We are grateful to the many trans people who have supported our vision for 'Transparent' since its inception and remain heartbroken about the pain and mistrust their experience has generated in our community," she said. "We are taking definitive action to ensure our workplace respects the safety and dignity of every individual, and are taking steps to heal as a family."Tambor has played Maura Pfefferman, a father who comes out as transgender to his wife and children, since 2014.The show was renewed for a fifth season in August, but Tambor's future on the show remained in question. In its first four seasons, "Transparent" earned praise for lifting the visibility of the transgender community. It has also raked in a number of awards for Amazon, including the Golden Globe for best TV comedy or musical in 2015 and a number of awards for Tambor. In a statement in November, Tambor said playing his character on "Transparent" "has been one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life." 2381

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Inside Super Food and Brew, it’s been a brutal few months of business, ever since the coronavirus pandemic began.“We did have to reduce the staff quite a bit,” said Al Penttila, Super Food and Brew’s general manager. “Basically, it was a struggle for them for the beginning of it.”Surviving mainly on take-out and delivery orders, news that the Republican National Convention would be coming to Jacksonville came as a welcome relief.“The arena is about three blocks from here so we're hoping and we're expecting a lot of foot traffic,” Penttila said. The RNC estimates about 50,000 people will make their way to Jacksonville for the convention and potentially bring in more than 0 million to the local economy. Yet, there are some concerns about what else it might bring, one of which revolves around the potential for protests during the convention.“I hope it doesn't get out of hand,” Penttila said. “I know they're taking precautions.”The city’s Republican mayor said there will be plenty of security in place.“Peaceful protests are a right and here in Jacksonville we honor and respect that right,” said Mayor Lenny Curry, R-Jacksonville. “There will be additional resources in our city that will be subsidized by the federal government.”Then, there’s the ever-lurking specter of COVID-19. This week, Florida saw its biggest one-day jump in cases: more than 2,800.“A convention is a super spreader event and the possibilities, if you're a gambling person, the possibilities, the odds will be in your favor that you could possibly be exposed,” said Dr. Doreen Perez, with the University of North Florida’s Brooks College of Health. She said, without precautions, conventions of any kind can potentially spread the coronavirus to many people, who could end up taking it home to their communities.“Especially when they're coming from different all points of the nation,” Dr. Perez said. Her advice for attendees: social distance, wash your hands and wear a mask.“It's been proven that it works,” she said.Back at Super Food and Brew, there is little fear and a lot of hope.“I think the economic benefit of the RNC coming here will outweigh anything,” Penttila said.It is something the city will know one way or another by the last week of August. The RNC is set to take place in Jacksonville from August 24-27. 2341
