However, like any packaged food, she says you should still pay attention to the label.Crandall says, “So it might be a plant-based product but are there any added oils to get that flavor. WASHINGTON, D.C. — It’s easily one of the most visible of the celestial bodies: the moon. Next year, the journey to get humans back there will get underway again.“Ultimately, it fulfills our need to explore,” said Dr. Kjell Lindgren, a NASA astronaut, who is one of the 18 recently chosen for NASA’s Artemis program.Artemis aims to get humans, including the first woman, to the lunar surface by 2024. Humans have not been back to the moon since the Apollo 17 mission back in 1972.“All of us in the astronaut office are, in one way or another, influenced by those iconic images of our Apollo astronauts exploring the moon,” Dr. Lindgren said.Returning to the moon is seen as a necessary stepping-stone to getting humans to Mars in the 2030s. The Artemis team will be working on lunar-related projects, both in orbit and on the surface of the moon, that can eventually be applied to a future Martian mission.“The moon offers a wealth of scientific discovery still,” Dr. Lindgren said. “It also offers a wealth of operational discovery helping us to refine the procedures the equipment and the skills that are needed to be able to land, to explore successfully on a rocky surface and then to come back to the earth.”The missions also have the potential to create technological advancements for everyone on Earth.“The whole world benefits from those things and the benefits from Apollo are innumerable. You know, from the computers, the miniaturization of computers and on, you can count all those,” he said. “That was really a turning point in history for technology.”NASA’s Artemis program hopes to eventually create a permanent human presence on the moon’s surface, similar to the current full-time human presence on the International Space Station, and Dr. Lindgren could be among them.“It's such a privilege to be a part of this,” he said.The new lunar program was named “Artemis,” after the Greek goddess, who was the twin sister of Apollo. 1950

Before that, he served as assistant superintendent for teaching and learning in Meriden, according to Connecticut State Colleges and Universities.The 45-year-old began his career as an elementary school teacher and served as a school principal for 10 years. He also taught for four years as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut in the Department of Educational Leadership.Cardona is a low-profile candidate who The Washington Post says has pushed to reopen schools and hasn’t been aligned with any particular side in recent education policy battles. When schools moved to remote learning this year, The Associated Press reports Cardona hurried to deliver more than 100,000 laptops to students across The Constitution State.In his announcement, Biden said Cardona will lead the administration’s efforts to invest in all students, support educators, and make reopening schools safely a national priority. They hope to safely reopen the majority of classrooms within the first 100 days of Biden’s term.Biden says Cardona will strive to eliminate long-standing inequities and close racial and socioeconomic opportunity gaps — as well as expand access to community colleges, training and public four-year colleges and universities to improve student success and grow a stronger middle class.Cardona’s parents are from Puerto Rico. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration says it will not work with an international cooperative effort to develop and distribute a COVID-19 vaccine because it does not want to be constrained by multilateral groups like the World Health Organization. The decision to go it alone, first reported by The Washington Post, follows the White House’s decision in early July to pull the United States out of the WHO. Trump claims the WHO needs reform and is heavily influenced by China. Some nations have worked directly to secure supplies of vaccine, but others are pooling efforts to ensure success against a disease that has no geographical boundaries. More than 150 countries are setting up the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access Facility, or COVAX.White House spokesman Judd Deere says the U.S. will continue engaging with its global partners to defeat the virus, but will not be “constrained by multilateral organizations influenced by the corrupt World Health Organization and China.”The WHO says even governments making deals with individual vaccine makers would benefit from joining COVAX because it would provide backup vaccines in case the ones being made through bilateral deals with manufacturers aren’t successful. 1228
