SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City officials hope to get the construction process for a proposed downtown park, aimed at being an anchor for San Diego's East Village, off the ground this summer.The proposed 4.1-acre, million East Village Green will sit between F and G Streets stretching from 13th St. to 15th St. The massive stretch of green space in the heart of downtown San Diego will feature an 11,000-square-foot multi-use lawn, plaza and fountain areas, children's garden, 14,200-square-foot community center, dog parks, and room for food facilities, according to development plans.RELATED: Officials to break ground on county's first bike skills park in South BayThe green would also include an underground parking structure for 200 vehicles. "The City will be maintaining and programming East Village Green, and Civic [San Diego] hopes to start the bid solicitation process in late summer," according to Kimberly Moore with Civic San Diego. Part of the construction process will also involve restoring nearby historic homes, which sit at the corner of F and 15th Streets. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Customers at two Walmart stores in the North County say they received hundreds of dollars in fake bills.Last Thursday night, Billy Wagner went to the Walmart on Center Drive in San Marcos and cashed out a ,000 money transfer from a friend on the east coast."Watched the lady count the money on the counter three times," said Wagner.On the same night - and about five miles away in Escondido - John Whittingham stopped by the Walmart Neighborhood Market on East Valley Parkway to cash a check, receiving four 0 bills. "You won't believe it. These two 0 bills are counterfeit. We marked them, and they're not coming in," said Whittingham.Meanwhile, Wagner's bills were also raising suspicions."I couldn't them unstuck to count them," said Wagner. Wagner took a closer look and saw that eight of his ten bills had the same serial number. He says his bank confirmed they were fake.RELATED: Girls Scouts cheated with counterfeit money"Disbelief. It was extreme disbelief," said Wagner, who filed a report with the sheriff's department.He says there was disbelief, partly because the counterfeit bills look very real except for a few differences."There is no watermark on the fakes. They are also less gritty when you touch them," said Wagner.Of course, the identical serial numbers give the fakes away. 10News compared the bills received by both men, and those fake serial numbers matched. Questions linger. Where did the money come from? How many other customers got the bills? And how did the money slip past Walmart's safeguards?"I never figured going into Walmart, counterfeit money would be floating," said Whittingham.Whittingham did get his money back from Walmart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Condo and townhome sales increased more than 7 percent from April to May in San Diego County, while single-family home sales held steady, the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors reported Monday. Attached property sales increased 7.3 percent from 983 in April to 1,055 in May. Month-over-month sales of single-family homes increased by just 0.7 percent from 2,023 in April to 2,037 in May. Property sales, which plunged during the winter, have had steady increases since January. The price of single-family homes rose 1.2 percent from 2,200 in April to 0,000 in May. Attached property prices grew 3.3 percent from 0,000 in April to 4,000 in May. ``Sellers still have the upper hand in this market,'' said SDAR President Kevin Burke. ``However, buyers who take the time to research neighborhoods should find more homes for sale than they would have a year ago.'' SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Boulevard Fitness in University Heights has closed its doors following a letter from the city threatening expensive fines and to force the business to close.The gym stayed open in the face of local coronavirus-related restrictions on indoor activities for fitness centers for more than a month, according to a letter from City Attorney Mara Elliott."To date, evidence we have reviewed shows your business has been out of compliance for more than 45 days. If our office chooses to remedy the violation by pursuing an unfair business practices action, you and your business could be subject to fines of ,500 a day for each violation and orders to close," Elliott's letter on Tuesday stated.RELATED: Businesses to begin outdoor services at San Diego parksIn a letter sent to the gym's members on Wednesday, Boulevard Fitness said it has temporarily closed "due to current fiscal situations.""We are not sure when this closure period will end but we will be [sic] continuously monitor this and update you when appropriate," the gym's letter read.
