(KGTV) - A six-year-old Vista boy said he was approached by an unknown man in a car Monday night who asked him if he wanted pizza.Erika Bristow said her son was playing on their driveway when the man drove up and tried to get the boy’s attention.“He definitely realized immediately it wasn’t a safe situation,” Bristow said of her son, who ran inside to tell them about it.Her son has special needs and is normally very friendly, according to Bristow. So over the past year, she and her husband have been reinforcing the “stranger danger” lesson. Earlier this week they said the topic was even addressed during their son’s karate class.After his son told them about what happened, Craig Bristow said he ran out to the driveway to look for the car. He said he saw it up the street parked behind some trees before the driver sped back down the road.He said he caught a look at the car and the driver but was too distracted to take down the license plate.“All those thoughts are coming through your mind. It’s like a parent's worst nightmare,” he said.They called the sheriff’s Ddepartment, which sent out patrols, but they could not locate the car. The Bristows described the vehicle as a new, white Honda Civic hatchback with roof racks and a sunroof.The family said they did not get any pictures of the car and so far have not heard from any of their neighbors if the car was captured on surveillance cameras.Erika Bristow said the incident has shattered her sense of safety on their winding, quiet street in Vista.“One hour I’ll just cry. Walmart says they plan to pay their workers in the United States a holiday cash bonus.In a press release, the company announced an estimated 8 million in special cash bonuses on Dec. 24, which comes out to be 0 for full-time employees and 0 for part-time workers.Drivers, coaches, and assistant managers will also receive a special cash bonus, Walmart said in a press release.The company paid employees 9 million in quarterly bonuses on Nov. 25, "following a strong third-quarter business performance."According to Walmart, it has paid a total of more than .8 billion in bonuses in 2020.Walmart also announced they are extending its leave policy through July 5, 2021, amid the ongoing pandemic.The policy currently provides "associates with up to two weeks of pay should they need to stay home for COVID-related reasons, including mandated quarantines, symptoms, or illness."The company said employees unable to return to work after that time would receive additional pay replacement for up to 26 weeks. 1025

Voters in Maine are trying out a new election system this year.“It is going to be used this fall for the first time in the presidential race, and that was a focus of a series of court challenges that went back and forth up though just a few weeks ago before it was finally determined, yes it will be used in the presidential race,” said Mark Brewer, Professor of Political Science at the University of Maine.What is ranked-choice voting? And how does it differ from how you fill out the more traditional “choose one,” or plurality, ballot design?“Normally you'll have a grid of candidates, all the candidate names on the left side and all of your choice columns along the top,” said Chris Hughes with the Ranked Choice Voting Resource Center. “Once we get everybody's ballots in, you count up all the first choices. If anyone has the majority, they get 50% of all those first choices, then that person is the winner.”However, if no candidate gets 50%, “you eliminate whoever has the fewest first choices and count the second choices on those ballots instead,” Hughes said.Ranked-choice voting has already been used for some local elections in states like California.“The big surge we’ve seen in the last 20 years started in San Francisco. San Francisco adopted ranked-choice voting in 2002 to eliminate their run off elections. Now they have a single general election,” Hughes said. “The last 20 years we’ve seen this huge growth, even between 2016 and 2020 we’ve seen five more cities adopt ranked-choice voting.”Why is Maine making the change now, in the brink of a critical presidential race? I can't imagine we will. Walmart has announced that customers won't have to leave home to return their online purchases.On Monday, the company announced they are partnering up with FedEx for a new return service that would allow items to be returned to be picked up from your home.To use Carrier Pickup by FedEx, customers would select which item(s) they are returning on Walmart's website or app, then schedule a date for pickup, and print a label.If you don't have a printer, Walmart said you'd drop it off at FedEx using a QR code off Walmart's website or app and drop the package off at a FedEx location.The "incredibly convenient" return option is free and would stay well beyond the holiday season, Linne Fulcher, Vice President, Customer Strategy, Science and Journeys said.The retail giant also announced a few changes to holiday returns, including finding purchases in-store through your debit or credit card.
