CHOLLAS VIEW (KGTV) - A short pursuit ended in a crash near Gompers Preparatory School Saturday night.The pursuit started around 6:45 p.m. at 4700 Castana Street in Chollas View, police said. The suspect was wanted for speeding when they took off. The pursuit ended a few minutes later when the suspect crashed less than a mile away into a railing at Gompers Preparatory School. The suspect was arrested. No one was injured. Gompers Preparatory School is a public charter school that operates in cooperation with the University of California, San Diego.   588

Christiane Amanpour will officially replace Charlie Rose on PBS stations across the country.The move was made official at the public broadcaster's annual meeting on Tuesday. It has been in the works for five months, ever since PBS stations began replaying Amanpour's CNN International program.Those half-hour Amanpour rebroadcasts were an interim replacement for Rose's 11 p.m. talk show, which was cancelled last November after women came forward to accuse him of sexual harassment and misconduct.Now Amanpour is expanding to an hour, like Rose's show used to be. The show will have a new name, "Amanpour & Company," and a stable of regular contributors. The changes will take effect in July."I'm delighted to expand my role at PBS from interim to permanent along with this remarkable diversity of voices and views," Amanpour said. "Never has the time for exploring our world and America's place in it been so urgent."Her statement also alluded to Rose's exit and the reason for it: "I am also thrilled to be a female filling this role at this time!"The expansion was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.Amanpour is CNN's chief international correspondent. Her weekday program "Amanpour" has been on CNN International since 2012. The expanded edition will continue to be shown on CNNI, which is primarily available outside the United States. Since voters approved commercial cannabis operations in 2018, we have been working to establish a quality program that attracts businesses like Grasshopper that are committed to running top-notch operations in our community.”Measure Q, an initiative approved by voters in 2018, allows for “commercial cannabis retail, delivery, testing, cultivation and manufacturing” in Chula Vista.Under Measure Q, the city said: “A total of 12 cannabis retail operations are allowed in the City of Chula Vista. Each council district may have a maximum of three retail locations to include two storefront locations or a combination of storefront and delivery operations, not to exceed three per council district.Grasshopper Delivery is Chula Vista owned and operated. Dedicated to sustainable green business practices, Grasshopper uses lows-emission vehicles for delivery and offers biodegradable packaged cannabis products at affordable prices.”Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, Grasshopper Delivery is operating by contactless delivery only.Grasshopper Delivery founding president Andres Camberos said, “We recognize the need for access to licensed legal cannabis in the City of Chula Vista and look forward to serving South County communities. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Chula Vista company that sells health and wellness products received a letter from the Federal Trade Commission Friday warning company representatives to halt alleged claims that its products could treat or prevent COVID-19.Youngevity International Inc. was issued a letter stating that claims made on the company's website or through social media posts "unlawfully advertise that certain products treat or prevent" coronavirus.The FTC alleges one such claim made by Youngevity "business opportunity participants or representatives" includes a statement that with certain company products, "your body will be able to withstand and eliminate Covid-19 and the vaccines forthcoming for Covid-19."The agency also states that a link on the company's website marked "FlattenTheCurve Shop Immune Support" redirects users to the company's online store, where various "immune support" products are available for sale.Phone calls made to the company were transferred to Youngevity CEO Stephen Wallach, whose voicemail mailbox was full Friday afternoon.The FTC's letter states that it is unlawful to advertise that a product can prevent, treat or cure human disease without scientific evidence or studies substantiating such claims, of which there are none for COVID-19 in relation to Youngevity's products.The letter to Youngevity was one of six sent to companies across the country on Friday. The FTC also sent a batch of nearly 100 letters last month to various companies allegedly claiming their products and therapies could treat or prevent COVID-19, including four based in San Diego: ActiveHerb Technology Inc., Aspire Regenerative Health, EcoShield, LLC and Forever Ozone. 1699

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista woman says an attempted purse snatching at her front door led to her being dragged into the street.Around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday on Kelso Court, surveillance video shows a vehicle stopping in the middle of the cul-de-sac. A person appears to gets out on the passenger side and linger near the car.At the same time and feet away, Shaun McMahon was in her car, parked in her driveway. When she got out of the car, she was carrying a bag, food items and her purse."When I got to my front door, I noticed in my right peripheral vision, a person was there," said McMahon.Her cameras captured a still image of the moment. She says a lean, dark-haired man, possibly in his 20s, grabbed at her purse."Held down on my purse, but it swung around because he pulled so hard," said McMahon.Everything else she was holding went flying, but she held fast to her purse."Dragging me towards my grass ... I hung on for dear life. I was yelling 'Let go!'" said McMahon. "It was instinct. I wasn't letting go. This was somebody violating me, stealing from me. I had to fight back."McMahon says she was dragged some 75 feet - across her lawn and into the street - as she continued to scream. With the purse coming apart, the man finally let go, and jumped in the parked car, which then took off.McMahon was left with a swollen ankle, a bruised back and a lot of questions. Among them: why was she targeted in an apparent drive-by purse snatching in front of her home? Police say this appears to be an isolated incident.McMahon plans to buy a new camera system and pepper spray."I never thought I should be concerned walking into my home.
