SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A nurse who works for the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility tested positive for coronavirus Wednesday, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department says. According to the department, the nurse has been isolated at home. No other information was provided about the individual's condition at this time. The department says it has identified inmates and staff who may have come into close contact with the nurse. A total of nine employees are considered at low exposure risk. All nine employees are currently under self-quarantine."The Sheriff's Department has implemented safeguards to ensure the health and well-being of employees. We have been providing comprehensive education to staff on how to reduce chances of exposure and infection. We are continually updating communications with employees to include the latest best practices for combating the virus through training bulletins, signage at Sheriff's facilities and daily updates via email. We have implemented social distancing, virtual meetings, working from home, as well as paused non-essential meetings, travel and training. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake along Mexico’s southern coastline Tuesday was felt hundreds of miles away.Thousands of people ran into the streets as buildings swayed back and forth. A hospital in Mexico City was evacuated; patients were sent to wait outside until they were given the all-clear.According to Mexico’s civil protection agency, four people were confirmed dead.The earthquake was centered just east of the popular tourist destination Huatulco, Oaxaca. According to Mexican officials, the damage was not widespread.“Right now, we’re working together with the Mexican Army, the Mexican Marines, and the National Guard,” said Ricardo Gamez, personal secretary to the mayor of Huatulco.“The Mayor, Giovanne González García, has visited hospitals, checking buildings, homes,” he said. “We have a lot of damage. We are doing evaluations of the houses and the buildings.”Gamez said shelters were set up for anyone in need.In San Diego County, Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina was left with concerns as he has close ties to the coastal town.“There’s a strong Oaxacan community in southern California, especially San Diego,” said Dedina. “Most hardcore surfers in San Diego know that coast really well.”Outside of his duties as mayor, Dedina runs Wildcoast, an international team that conserves coastal marine ecosystems and wildlife, including sea turtles in Mexico.“We have an office in Huatulco, our office received some damage I talked to our staff member there who was shaken up and in the office when the earthquake happened,” he said. “Talked to our interns, we have two paid interns that come from an indigenous community where they work to protect sea turtles; they were on the road near the epicenter when it happened.”Dedina said all three people were not injured.“It’s really a remarkable place in Mexico and probably some of the warmest, friendliest people on the planet,” he said. “Very shocked when we heard this happened and wishing our best to all our friends in Oaxaca.” 2024

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken Allied Gardens homeowner is pleading for the return of a stolen trailer? which contained the belongings of her hospitalized mother.When Erin Rose went out to the driveway of her home on Delbarton Street Friday morning, she froze. "My heart just dropped into my stomach. I felt nauseous," said Rose.Missing from her driveway was her 5-ft x 8-ft trailer. Drag marks revealed how it left the home."You can see it extends all the way to the street ... and to the intersection," said Rose.Rose had locked up the trailer in two places. The only thing she found were the remnants of one of the locks."Just heartbreaking and sad," said Rose. The trailer contained all the belongings of her mother Gail, 74, a part-time San Diegan recently hospitalized in Wisconsin with a heart condition. Rose had been storing her mother's belongings since buying a home months ago."That's all my mom has left. Now she has nothing," said Rose.Inside the trailer: furniture, household items, and some jewelry, including family heirlooms. There was also a lifetime of photos. Most of them haven't been digitized. Rose waited a week to tell her mother, until she was strong enough to receive the news."She cried, she cried. She knew she couldn't get stressed out, couldn't get her heart rate up. Right now she's focusing on her health. Hasn't really hit her she's going to come back to nothing," said Rose.Rose is now hoping to change that by making a plea for tips."I just want when she comes back to be able to have her photos on her nightstand. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local businessman is now accused in a child porn case, several years after he managed to get off the sex offender registry.Along Tokalon Street in Bay Park, there is a sense of disbelief. A neighbor of some 7 years - Joseph Welsh - arrested in Fontana over the weekend.Police say parents confronted him and took his phone after he took photos of girls in bathing suits at a birthday party.Search warrants executed at his home and his business - a Segway rental outlet on Mission Boulevard - netted several electronic devices containing child porn, according to investigators.The neighbors' sense of shock was magnified because of what they didn't know about his past: a conviction in the 1990s in San Bernardino county for possessing child porn, and annoyance of a child.Police say in 2014, the courts deemed him not a danger to the public and removed him from the registry.It's a maneuver many can't understand.An acquaintance of Welsh, 47, told 10News those who worked near him became "creeped out" because he was always photographing surf schools and flying drones on the beach.In one instance, concerns led to an acquaintance to warn a teenager who knew Welsh to stay away from him.To search the California Megan's Law website for registry results, click here. 1308
