SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Students at an East San Diego school will meet Thursday to decide how to honor two classmates murdered in Tijuana this month.Christopher Alexis Gomez, a 17-year-old senior at O'Farrell Charter School in Encanto, and 18-year-old Juan Suarez-Ojeda, who graduated from the same school last year, were found shot to death in Tijuana on Nov. 25. Gomez's cousin, Katheryn Garcia, told 10News Wednesday that the two teens were likely tortured in different locations before being killed execution-style and left in front of the Lomas Verdes housing complex.Another teen believed to be Ojeda's friend was also killed.Students at O'Farrell Charter are set to meet with school officials Thursday to decide how to honor their two classmates. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sky10 was there as police and firefighters responded to a car crash in San Carlos Friday evening. The crash, which happened just after 5:30 p.m., happened in the 6200 block of Del Paso Avenue, not far from Patrick Henry High School. The female driver hit the gas pedal instead of the brake when approaching the garage door, police said. She hit the washer and dryer, pushing them through the wall and into the house. The driver and occupants of the home were not injured in the crash. Firefighters helped pull down the garage door and advised the family to have a structural expert check the walls where the washer and dryer pushed through. 700
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several residents have reported receiving calls from San Diego Superior Court demanding money for pending court cases or face arrest.The scam has been reported by several members of the county Hispanic community, according to court officials. The caller says the potential victim has a pending case and that they must deposit money into a bank account or an arrest warrant will be issued.Scammers are using software to mask their number, so the ongoing calls will display the official court phone number in Caller ID."The Court would like to remind the public that it will not demand money over to phone to clear up cases or dismiss any warrants. When in doubt, immediately hang up and call the Court on your own," a release from San Diego Superior Court said.Law enforcement officials also recommend hanging up and calling authorities if scammers become aggressive over the phone. 908
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a photo Friday of a suspect wanted in the death of a woman in Point Loma.Joe Bennette Conway, 41, shot the unidentified woman in the parking lot of 4013 W. Point Loma Blvd. late on the night of October 9, police said.911 dispatchers received a call about the shooting. Police units found a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital, where she died.Police identified Conway as the murder suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Conway is 5’7” tall and 150 pounds. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's shifting real-estate market could mean new opportunities for entry-level home buyers.A new study from realestate.com says the rate of appreciation for homes at the lower third of the price range are appreciating at 2.2 percent annually. That's a large drop off from the 10.4 percent price growth those homes saw from 2017 to 2018. “Those homes, priced in the bottom third of the market, have been appreciating the fastest and have seen the least inventory in recent years and price cuts are becoming more common as the balance between buyers and sellers is trending toward evening out," said Skylar Olsen, director of economic research for Zillow Group, which owns realestate.com "That’s not a huge surprise, as annual home-value appreciation has been well above historic norms for some time, and was due to slow back toward normal.”The typical entry level home in San Diego County is now worth 4,500. That's still a hefty price for San Diego renters who are paying an average of about ,000 a month and struggling to save for a down payment. Still, down payment assistance programs are available through the County and San Diego Housing Commission. Additionally, potential buyers can qualify for an F.H.A. loan with as little as 3.5 percent down. And Veterans can buy homes with nothing down through a V.A. loan. Carlos Espinoza and his wife Esther are buying a two-bedroom condo in Rancho Penasquitos for 9,000, the full asking price. They put 12 percent down, which they accumulated by increasing contributions to Carlos's 401(K), then borrowing from that fund.
